Job description

This exciting opportunity in the Forth Valley Radiology Service is suited to an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated individual to take the lead role in the operational and professional leadership of the Forth Valley Sonography Team. As a new role at Forth Valley, there is opportunity to shape the Ultrasound Service, and develop for the future.

This post will entail day to day team operational responsibilities, and professional development of the service and team within it.  There will be a proportionate clinical workload in the speciality of the successful candidate, and an expected 60% Admin, and 40% clinical commitment split.  The Ultrasound service at Forth Valley extends across two sites: Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert, and Stirling Health Care Village, in Stirling.  The team is made up of 9 WTE Sonographers, who scan in the region of 33,000 patients per year, and a Sonographer led 7-day service for In-Patients is in place at Forth Valley Royal Hospital.  Specialist scans are provided by Advance Practice Sonographers in: Head+Neck, Gynae, MSK, Vascular, and Baby Hips, along with the general aspect of the service, which all form a diverse and highly trained team.

Advanced practice is celebrated in Forth Valley, and continued development of Team members to fulfil CPD and role advancement is actively sought.  Flexibility in approach and education is a vital aspect of the service, and the successful candidate will be responsible for shaping the service moving forwards in line with the Boards vision.  There is a requirement for robust leadership skills, and candidates must show effective previous experience of this, along with a transformational approach to service provision.  The Sonography Team covers various sites for screening programmes, and a satellite site in Stirling for Out-Patients; leadership of the core and extended team will be within this roles remit.

The successful candidate will demonstrate good operational, organisational and interpersonal skills. Working closely with the various Consultant Radiologists across various specialties is required to deliver a safe and effective service.  You will provide effective professional leadership and assist in the operational management of the Radiology Department as a whole when required to ensure a safe, effective, and efficient patient centred imaging service within Forth Valley.

The successful candidate must demonstrate a sound knowledge of: Professional, SIGN, and RCR guidelines, along with a good team work ethic.  Support from the Consultant Radiologist team is in place, and knowledge of the governance requirements intrinsic to Ultrasound scanning will be expected.  Demonstration of an understanding of the 4 pillars of AHP practice, and their practical application will also be required.

It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be an experienced Radiographer in possession of the DCR and/or BSc/BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography and will hold a post graduate qualification in Clinical Ultrasound, along with further post-graduate education in a specialist Ultrasound field.  Well documented evidence of Continuing Professional Development is essential.
