Develop leadership skills through an innovative partnership between NHS Highland the National Outdoor Training Centre at Glenmore Lodge


Are you interested in developing your understanding of leadership and professionalism through a structured programme while joining our acute care teams across some of the most beautiful areas of the Scottish Highlands?


FIXED TERM FOR 12 MONTHS FROM 3RD AUGUST 2022


Variable opportunities available ​​​​​​​

Salary £34,901 to £46,173 ​​​​​per annum plus banding supplement


Applications are invited for the above posts of Clinical Fellow (leadership and Professionalism programme) which is available from 3rd August 2022 for a period of 12 months. These posts are available at various locations throughout NHS Highland.


The posts will afford successful applicants the opportunity to experience a range of specialties across NHS Highland with protected and mentored teaching and development time. Post may be based in Raigmore Hospital Inverness, Belford Hospital Fort William, Lorn & Islands Hospital Oban or Caithness General Hospital, Wick with options for 6 months rotations or a full 12 month placement. Raigmore specialty posts involved are likely to include choices from Medicine, Critical Care, Obstetrics, Paediatrics and Orthopaedics.  There may also be opportunities at the National Treatment Centre, which is currently being built on the University of Highland Islands campus, nearby to Raigmore Hospital.


Successful candidates will be contracted for up to 48 hours per week, which will include an average of 4 hours per week of protected time to engage with a structured programme of teaching and mentoring by senior leaders. For candidates with an interest in outdoor pursuits, there is an option to engage with training with the National outdoor training centre at Glenmore lodge to develop transferable leadership skills. The post holder will be paid at ST level based on their previous experience. A banding supplement relevant to the OOH component of their rotas will be paid in addition to the basic salary. 


Your appointment will be subject to the Terms and Conditions of Service of Hospital Medical and Dental Staff and Doctors and Dentists in Public Health Medicine and the Community Health Service (Scotland).


About the Leadership and Professionalism Programme


Fellows will join a programme of teaching and mentoring across a number a themes related to professional development and aligned to the GMC Generic Professional Capabilities Framework.  These themes have been chosen to ensure benefit across all specialties or future career pathways. Fellows will be encouraged and supported to develop their understanding, and use structured discussions and personal reflection to evidence their learning throughout the year.  There will be opportunities to develop or engage with quality/service improvement projects and benefit from senior support and supervision.


Dedicated time for learning will be split between structured teaching, mentoring and shadowing of senior leaders and option for personal development project or external training in outdoor pursuits leadership.
