Clinical Development Fellowship (CDFs) – Haematology                 

Full time (40 hours per week)

For a period of 12 months (fixed term)


Salary Scale - £34,901 - £54,879 per annum (pro rata)

Applications are invited from trainee doctors having recently completed or about to finish either UK Foundation Programmes or Internal Medical Training to apply for the position of Clinical Development Fellow (CDF) in Haematology.

This exciting post offers 12 months post working in the Haematology Department at Forth Valley Royal Hospital.   In addition, CDFs will have protected 6 hours per week of development time and 2 hours of in-house training. The clinical component will comprise inpatient assessment, haemato-oncology treatment clinics, general haematology clinics and liaison haematology. There will also be an introduction to laboratory haematology. There may be an opportunity to gain additional experience in another speciality of choice on negotiation with base team and destination team.

The appointment will be on a full-time, fixed term basis and remuneration will be determined by the pay and conditions of hospital medical and dental staff (NHS Circular: PCS (DD) 2021/2).

The successful applicant will be part of the Haematology team. The department currently includes 6 consultant haematologists:  Dr Roddy Neilson, Dr Rachel Boulton-Jones, Dr Katrina Farrell, Dr Hugh Edwards, Dr Katharine Hanlon and Dr Robbie McNeil in addition to a haematology registrar, 2 Haematology CNSs and 2 Haematology ANPs.

Potential projects for a successful applicant within the department could include quality improvement projects on outpatient clinic structures or audits on chemotherapy governance compliance. There would be opportunity to get involved in undergraduate and post-graduate haematology teaching as well as the department is due to start an Undergraduate SSC module in Haematology for University of Glasgow students.
