Job description

NHS Lothian

Speciality Doctor/GP with an interest in Gender Identity

Lothian Sexual and Reproductive Health Service, Chalmers Centre

Reference: CG2437

NHS Lothian is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best.

To this end, NHS Lothian welcomes applications from all sections of society.

Applications are welcome for the above part time post, up to 12 hours per week, based at the Chalmers Centre, Edinburgh.

This is a sessional post(s) for 1 year fixed term – for post-CCT General Practitioners or Speciality doctors with experience in Gender Identity services. The post is for up to 3 x four hour sessions per week.  Applications for one or two sessions per week will be considered. Pay will be at Specialty doctor/GP sessional rates according to qualifications and relevant experience. Salary range for Speciality Doctor is £43,246 - £80,643, GP is £63,187 - £94,311.

The Chalmers Gender Identity Clinic (CGIC) is currently undergoing redesign of services to deliver a more person-centred model of care and improve access to services by reducing waiting lists. This is informed by the 2022 Gender Recognition Protocol Review and supported by the recent announcement by the Scottish Government of a £9 million investment in gender services over 3 years to fund new service models, address waiting times and support those waiting to access gender services. Redesign will include substantial new staffing resource to include psychology, nursing, specialist endocrine, administrative and medical posts.

As part of this process, a significant increase in staffing capacity will be required and the existing team will be required to deliver training to a significant number of new staff. This post will provide additional clinical capacity for gender care to maintain capacity during this transition.

There are ample opportunities for clinical leadership, service improvement, management, research, and teaching within the Gender Service and wider clinical sexual and reproductive health services. Further opportunities may arise in future for eligible candidates within the redesigned service.
