Specialist Clinical Pharmacist – ICU and Surgery in Edinburgh

We have an excellent career opportunity available for an enthusiastic pharmacist who is ready to advance their career and develop their leadership and clinical skills within the Surgical Pharmacy team at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Larbert.

This post is a full time surgical and critical care senior pharmacist. You will be trained in and work within intensive care, the nutrition team, and amongst different surgical specialties, for example: urology, ophthalmology, and colorectal surgery.

A key responsibility of this role will include taking the lead for a defined patient group within the surgical directorate. Therefore, this is an excellent opportunity to prepare for advanced practice as you will have the opportunity to develop clinical expertise, leadership skills, and contribute to managing change and improving services.

The post holder will also be expected to contribute to on call and weekend and public holiday rotas.

We are looking for a highly motivated pharmacist to contribute to transforming hospital services and improving patient outcomes. You will need to be flexible, organised, work well within a team and have a positive, ‘can do’ attitude.  You need to enjoy working in a busy and challenging environment. We are looking for a well rounded-practitioner who has completed post-registration foundation practice. 

The pharmacy service within NHS Forth Valley is highly regarded across the organisation with staff working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.  The clinical pharmacist team is strongly supported by one of the largest and most established clinical pharmacy technician teams in Scotland, who are poised to take their service to the next level.  The department is forward thinking and constantly seeking improvement. We have many opportunities for personal development and you will be supported to undertake clinical leadership training and post-registration education. The Pharmacy Department makes use of modern technologies including robotics. Hospital Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (HEPMA) has been implemented throughout the health board since 2016, keeping us at the forefront of healthcare provision.

Our pharmacy team is dedicated, supportive, and friendly. We enjoy social events, group dog walks, our weekly cake club, and book club. The hospital, which is situated surrounded by woods and lochs, provides many activities to support healthy lives for staff such as running and cycling clubs. Larbert is within 40 minutes of Edinburgh and Glasgow and has excellent road and rail links.
