Global Manager Selection - Fund & ETFs (GMS) is the designated Centre of Reference in charge of selection, research and approval of all funds and ETFs, which are sold/distributed by various HSBC Group business such as Wealth and Personal Banking, Private Banking, and various Insurance entities, across the globe. GMS is a global team, based in London, Hong Kong and Bangalore, responsible for mutual funds across all the asset classes encompassing Equity, Fixed Income, and Multi-Asset.

The Opportunity:

The role will provide global leadership for investment due diligence (IDD) in the funds and ETFs product line for HSBC Group. The role has management responsibilities for teams of fund and quantitative analysts.

Responsible for oversight of Fund IDD and the IDD process overall, and for the creation of high quality collateral and thought leadership materials which will help drive the adoption and growth of the product line globally.

The role holder will be expected to have extensive interaction with external asset managers, and be able to write high quality publications, and make presentations to articulate his / her views with conviction, to clients and frontline colleagues in HSBC. This is a senior role with important product line responsibilities and with frequent Senior Management contact at external Asset Managers.

An entrepreneurial, start-up approach and willingness to take end-to-end ownership are key, as is the ability to collaborate and communicate with the team members and key stakeholders across the business.

What you’ll do:

The primary responsibilities include:

  • The role holder will be expected to help drive the adoption and penetration of Funds within the Wealth & Global Private Banking book globally
  • The role holder will be expected to:
  • Act as a leader for fund IDD, guiding and mentoring the teams to produce selected fund lists, model portfolios and investment themes by running in depth analysis, making documented submissions, and monitoring Fund selection
  • Analyse, select and advise investments in Funds to the benefit of clients
  • Build, maintain and enhance a high quality IDD process and funds platform and deliver high quality advice on funds globally
  • Actively participate in the Global Manager Selection Committee, chaired by the Global Head of Funds and ETFs, as well as represent GMS in investment meetings
  • Lead the support to Relationship Managers and Investment Counselors in proposing fund solutions to clients
  • Communicate effectively with key stakeholders (both internal, as well as Funds/ETFs houses)
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • 15 years or more of prior experience in the Funds / Asset Management industry ideally with exposure to fixed income and quantitative research
  • Prior experience could ideally include experience as a head of fund selection / research, fund manager or as a senior investment specialist
  • Professional qualifications / certifications like a CFA, FRM, MBA are preferred but not a pre-requisite
  • The role will also involve client interaction and the job holder may need to obtain adequate regulatory certifications
  • Strong communication is an important skill – as the role holder should be able to make presentations both in writing and in spoken presentations to articulate his / her views effectively to clients and frontline colleagues.
