STROKE SPECIALIST NURSE – WARD 2A

BAND 6

37.5 hours per week, Full Time, Fixed Term 12 Months

Post - Specialist Stroke Nurse

Department – Stroke Unit, Raigmore Hospital

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Stroke Services for a Stroke Specialist Nurse.  This is a new post, and our ideal candidate will be someone who is a highly motivated individual to help lead, educate, implement & evaluate standards for stroke thrombolysis and thrombectomy.

On a daily basis you will be responsible for ensuring that you work as part of a team of nurses promoting & providing a high-quality care for all hyper-acute stroke patients, including the transfer of patients to and from the Thrombectomy Hubs for treatment.  You will ensure appropriate learning opportunities are met for all staff, encouraging best practice to deliver a high quality of patient care at all times in line with the NHS Highland and NHS Scotland protocols and guidelines.  You will be expected to collect and enter the audit data for SSCA for those having stroke thrombolysis and /or thrombectomy.

You will be a motivated, organised individual with excellent communication skills with a desire to develop your leadership skills and the ongoing development of stroke hyper-acute services, including the delivery of STAT and STAT+ training for other staff.  You will be responsible to the Senior Charge Nurse / Stroke Coordinator for clinical guidance & professional management and will deputise for the SCN as required.  You will demonstrate excellent leadership, confident communication, and effective organisational skills.  Evidence of personal development will be expected.

The successful applicant will possess substantial experience at Band 5 level within a relevant setting and demonstrate a high level of IT skills.  A good understanding and knowledge of policy, procedures and national targets will be required to support the team.

The shift pattern is: rotational 12.5hrs​​​​​​​
