Our technology teams in the UK work closely with HSBC’s global businesses to help design and build digital services that allow our millions of customers around the world, to bank quickly, simply and securely. We also run and manage our IT infrastructure, data centres and core banking systems that power the world’s leading international bank.

Our multi-disciplined teams include: DevOps engineers, IT architects, front and back end developers, infrastructure specialists, cyber experts, as well as project and programme managers.

We work in small, agile DevOps teams with colleagues around the world from our offices at the Bluefin Building in Southwark, our global headquarters in Canary Wharf, and multiple other locations around the UK including Sheffield, Leeds, Barnsley and Birmingham.

Following extensive investment across our Technology and Digital domains and with plans for continued expansion throughout 20nn and beyond, we are currently seeking a Technical Analyst to join HSBC Technology.

 

Branch/Dept Profile:

Mainframe Infrastructure designs, provisions and maintains a fully resilient and contingent Mainframe environment, to meet the processing requirements of the services hosted on the System Z platform.

Job Description:

The successful candidate would join the zSeries DB2 DBA team within Mainframe Infrastructure and will be involved in DB2 Application Design, Build, Implementation and Performance tuning.  The majority of applications run in a high availability, near 24*7, high performance twelve-way DB2 data-sharing sysplex environment. 

The candidate will participate in all aspects of general database administration from application design through to live implementation.   Database Administrators are allocated specific application work to encourage an in-depth understanding of each of the applications.  The candidate will be required to act in a lead design capacity for assigned projects, providing advice and guidance on data / physical modeling to an application team. Applications within this organisation are being developed globally and there is a high possibility that the successful candidate would be expected to work alongside colleagues both within the UK as well as India / Hong Kong / France / Mexico and the USA.

The candidate should possess the drive to move the organisation forward in the DB2 Administration area and be willing to encompass and enhance existing global methodologies and standards.  Database convergence on standards and practices throughout the organisation is a key driver on a number of major projects.  Participation in the setup and driving of these global initiatives within the UK will form part of the role.

 

The successful applicant will work in a team of zSeries Application Database Analysts which will involve liaising and co-ordinating with application developers accessing mainframe Db2 and also with other teams within the Mainframe Infrastructure to ensure a high level Db2 Application Design, Build and Implementation is achieved to ensure near 24/7 availability. The skills required for this role are:-

You will need to possess good interpersonal skills and be a team player. They should be self-motivated and have the ability to represent the Mainframe Infrastructure team at all levels.  

You will need to be comfortable with liaising regularly with teams that interface with the department, and be comfortable with working with virtual teams.

Have the ability to adhere to standards and proactively take a lead on evolving standards where applicable is also essential.

Depending upon experience, you will also be expected to mentor junior members of the team to ensure that the knowledge and understanding of the core DB2 product and its associated tools and practices are both correct and current.   

 

Requirements
Special Requirements:

 

  • Database Administration (DB2 for z/OS)
  • Design experience including data / physical modeling.
  • Good knowledge of the CA/IBM Tool set.
  • Good SQL knowledge
  • TSO knowledge
  • Application Performance Tuning
  • DB2 housekeeping
  • Good communication/team player

Also desirable to have experience of planning tools and DB2 data-sharing environments.
