Our Technology teams work closely with HSBC’s global businesses to help design and build digital services that allow our millions of customers around the world; to bank quickly, simply and securely. We also run and manage our IT infrastructure, data-centres and core banking systems that power the world’s leading international bank.

Our multi-disciplined Technology teams include amongst others: DevSecOps engineers, IT architects, front and back-end developers, infrastructure specialists, cybersecurity experts, and delivery, project and programme managers.

 

Following extensive investment across our Technology and Digital domains and with plans for continued expansion throughout 2022 and beyond, we are currently seeking a Cloud FinOps Lead, to join HSBC.

 

 

Purpose of the job:

 

WPB Tech has experienced significant growth and change within recent years and as we look to future-proofing our technology estate we are migrating more and more services to Cloud. Cloud comes with a different set of financial and charging challenges and as such we have an opportunity for a FinOps Lead within WPB.

FinOps is an evolving cloud financial management discipline and cultural practice that enables organizations to get maximum business value by helping engineering, finance, technology and business teams to collaborate on data-driven spending decisions. The WPB Cloud FinOps Lead is the senior leader, reporting directly to the WPB Cloud Lead accountable for end to end management of the financial reporting and execution of financial operations across Enterprise Technology. The incumbent in this role will be the key relationship manager to the CIO, and Heads of Technology (and Function COOs & CFOs as appropriate), for all aspects of financial planning, management and reporting.

This role will be expected to operate as an agent of change to improve the delivery of Finance services within Technology COO and wider Technology as a whole, including, but not limited to, the Finance Shared Services model.

This role will also be expected to interface directly with the Technology Head of Finance to ensure consistency in driving towards an agreed Finance strategy in line with organisational constraints and targets.

 

 

 

What you will be doing;

 

  • Evolving Cloud Financial Management
  • Performance tracking and benchmarking
  • Cloud rate optimisation
  • Cloud usage optimisation
  • Drive cloud financial and performance management across WPB
  • Build strong and effective relationships across a complex and senior stakeholder framework which includes the CIO, CTO, Business & Technology COO, providing financial control, business analytics and insight, whilst at the same time providing constructive challenge and an independent perspective.
  • Drive the delivery and ongoing improvement of the WPB FinOps model alongside the WPB Office of the CTO Business management function.
  • Responsibility for WPB Cloud costs and recovery
  • Direct cost management together with cost charging management and associated “interlock” oversight
  • Interface and be key point of contact to CIO, Heads of Technology, Business leads and Business Managers, to deliver financial reporting and commentary
  • Ensure and improve accuracy of financial reporting to ensure Technology meets its scorecard objectives and that we have a realistic and achievable financial forecast
  • Interface into the Finance Shared Service function to direct creation of key reports, analysis of information and feeding back to improve this central service
  • Financial control of P&L and balance sheet
  • Cost spend MI, including YTD, Forecast and Actuals reporting
  • Lead implementation of Cloud Optimisation across WPB tracking successes and ensuring teams action new optisaisation tactics

 

 

Requirements

What you will bring to the role; 

 

To be successful in this role you should have proven experience within the Technology sector with knowledge of the following skills:

 

  • Proven ability to prioritize competing demands
  • Analyticial with good attention to detail, ensuring accuracy of data and able to work with functional teams globally
  • Proven ability to distil complex and varied data into information that can be utilized to manage and measure performance
  • Excellent written / verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Delivery-focused with ability to pay attention to detail and ensure tasks are completed on time and to the required levels of quality
  • Experience of managing costs for Technology in a relevant role in a global organisation
  • Role relevant qualifications, i.e. Qualified Accountant
  • Willness to challenge Cloud Service Providers and internal providers
  • Self-starter with a can do attitude and willingness to learn new skills and technologies
  • Strong interpersonal skills, coupled with proven experience working in a matrix management structure, and building and maintaining global team relationships
  • Experience of making prompt and practical business decisions, even in times of ambiguity, considering various perspectives and taking responsibility for outcomes
