IBM i Innovation Lead

Our technology teams in the UK work closely with HSBC’s global businesses to help design and build digital services that allow our millions of customers around the world, to bank quickly, simply and securely. We also run and manage our IT infrastructure, data centres and core banking systems that power the world’s leading international bank.

Our multi-disciplined teams include: Full Stack engineers, DevOps Engineers, IT architects, Infrastructure specialists, Cyber experts, as well as Project and Programme managers. We work in small, agile DevOps teams with colleagues around the world.

We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our IBM i team as an Innovation Lead.

 

Principal Responsibilities

  • Producing, establishing and maintaining thought leading research and developing high level strategy, putting in place the resources and technical architecture which will ensure success.
  • Engage with all relevant Technology stakeholders (Architecture, Engineering Practice, Transformation and CTO Leads) and Business Heads to maintain visibility on their need and use of new technology
  • Provide Technology input to the running of experiments and Proof of Concept (PoC) within the group
  • Engage effectively with Business, Risk and Technology customers/stakeholders at senior levels with the customer/user experience as a key objective
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert for your area (IBM i), provide knowledge sharing sessions and thought leadership.
  • Responsible for ensuring solutions are aligned with the platform architecture and roadmap, group standards and policies and the overall enterprise architecture for their function
  • Accountable for ensuring products & services are supported by the right architectures, and solutions meet the customer needs
  • Promotes and takes accountability for Innovation quality; identifies opportunities to improve delivery and oversees the governance process to reduce risk and ensure effective and timely decisions are taken
  • Work with product owners to ensure that high levels of automation are implemented and maintained across the teams
  • Work with external vendors and other bodies, as required, on all technology related matters
Requirements

Requirements

  • Degree qualifications in Computer Science, Information Engineering or relevant experience (15 years) with proven track record in an engineer led background
  • Extensive Vendor (IBM) liaison for technology strategy development and existing product currency
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and highly adaptive influencing skills for stakeholder management
  • Proven track record of new technology evaluation and running POCs
  • Cloud experience in large enterprises centered around IBMi PowerVC or similar product
  • Deep IBMi platform knowledge spanning 10+ Years with SME levels of exposure in Operating Systems, key 3rd Party products on monitoring and automation software (Ansible). Mature understanding and implementation of hardware-based disk replication and resilience on IBM DS Storage, associated toolkit services and Power hardware
  • Knowledge on IBMi products such as C:D, CDC, IWS Rest APIs, PowerVC is definitely an advantage
  • Demonstrable leadership qualities and Programme management experience using Agile methodologies
