Position: Senior / Quantity Surveyor

Location: Altrincham, Greater Manchester

Contract: Full Time, Permanent

Salary: £60K - £80K depending on experience, plus benefits package

PRS Engineering has engaged with a new client and leading group of companies specialised in delivery of projects within Construction, Development, Maintenance & Renewable Energy. With a number of exciting projects to take place, we are seeking a Quantity Surveyor/Senior Quantity Surveyor to join on a permanent basis, with head office based out of Altrincham, Greater Manchester. As Quantity Surveyor, you will oversee projects based in the Northwest of the England.

Job Purpose

To support the successful delivery of Projects Team business needs by providing a professional quantity surveying service, encompassing one or more of the core areas of procurement and contract management. The service is to be undertaken in accordance with high professional standards and business principles in compliance with regulatory and company procedures and policies.

Key Responsibilities and accountabilities:

All reasonable duties expected of a Quantity Surveyor assisted and monitored by the Site / Project Manager, including the following:

• To produce tender quotations for various construction contracts, giving detailed analysis of the works required and how they are to be carried out by our relevant Site Manager
• To produce detailed cost plans for projects based on available designs and assumptions
• To arrange and attend pre-tender site meetings with clients requiring tender quotations
• In conjunction with the Project Manager, to arrange site meetings with subcontractors to obtain quotations for subcontracted works
• To obtain competitive prices from various suppliers for all tender quotations to reduce costs for both ourselves and the client
• Establish and maintain appropriate contract and supplier relationship management
• Support the delivery of contract administration throughout the project lifecycle
• To liaise with the Project / Site Manager on all buying functions to ensure that the Company is obtaining the best service and value for money at all times
• To supervise and manage the costs for various construction contracts
• To ensure that all works are carried out to the tender requirements and the budget set out
• To monitor and record any additional works to the contract via the method of daywork sheets or C.V.I.’s (Confirmation of Verbal Instruction), E.W.N.’s (Early Warning Notices) which are to be signed by and agreed with the client and our Quantity Surveyor
• To attend scheduled site meetings with PM, Subcontractors or other interested parties in conjunction with the Project
• To liaise with the Project / Site Manager on the performance of Subcontractors and Suppliers
• To liaise with the client at all times to keep them informed on how work is progressing and what changes to specification maybe required etc. And what the additional costs for this will be
• To produce monthly valuations for construction contracts and submit them to HoC for Authorisation
• Manage post-contract commercial processes and procedures to deliver key commercial requirements on projects. These will include Early Warning and Change Management; Cost Forecasting; Payments; Cost Auditing and agreement of Final Accounts
• Negotiate and resolve contract claims / disputes and support senior leadership team in the resolution of escalated issues
• Proactively manage and mitigate commercial and business risk
• Maintain contract data with a high degree of accuracy to support robust Management Information and Reporting
• To undertake necessary training as and when required, in accordance with Health & Safety regulations and Company requirements

Education, Experience & Training: A Quantity Surveyor should possess basic training suited to their role and leading towards further education and training to a higher standard. Quantity Surveyors should possess the following training / education:

• Degree qualification relevant to quantity surveying
• 3+ years experience of managing medium to large projects
• Minimum 5+ years in the construction industry and clear demonstration of construction knowledge
• Preferably qualified to ICES or RICS accreditation
• Relevant Health & Safety Training Certificate (SMSTS or H&S Awareness)
• CSCS Card for Role and / or other relevant safety training (Manual Handling, Asbestos Awareness, First aid at work etc)
• Attention to detail is essential
• Excellent communication skills at all levels
• Able to influence and manage people
• Strong managerial skills
• Strong work ethic and desire to be part of a team
• Strong IT skills and ability to embrace new technology and systems
• Demonstrable experience in managing commercial aspects of utility and civils related projects or works
• Practical approach, logical thought process and a methodical way of working
• Demonstrate a creative and innovative approach to problem-solving
• Experience in the position or similar role
• Knowledge and experience in the use of standard forms of construction contract (preferably including NEC suite of contracts)
• A Full driving licence
