Website Project Lead (Drupal)

Remote-based, with on-site travel once a month

Day-rate contract

Start: 11th August


We're working with a long-standing education client to support with their efforts to recruit an experienced Project Lead to direct the planning and delivery of a large-scale website transformation programme (Drupal). This role is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end delivery of the university’s website roadmap, which includes a range of interdependent projects, products, and services. The successful candidate will manage delivery using both agile and waterfall methodologies and will work closely with cross-functional teams across Marketing and Technical areas.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and execution of a multi-phase website development programme.
  • Implement and maintain Agile practices to support effective programme delivery, including retrospectives, planning sessions, and regular team syncs.
  • Coordinate with the Website Board to prioritise work, manage dependencies, and plan releases.
  • Monitor delivery performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure that project and release delivery adheres to relevant methodologies, compliance standards, and tools.
  • Develop and maintain a clear delivery roadmap, managing sequencing and dependencies to align with strategic goals.
  • Engage with academic and professional services staff to ensure timely and effective delivery.
  • Manage relationships with third-party suppliers, including contract oversight and SLA monitoring.
  • Work alongside budget holders to support cost management and forecasting.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-quality project and product outcomes.
  • Support agile capability development by mentoring and coaching colleagues across delivery teams.


Requirements

  • Significant experience in delivery or programme management roles within digital or technology environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale, cross-functional programmes, ideally involving websites or digital services.
  • Strong working knowledge of agile and waterfall methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience working with third-party vendors and managing procurement/delivery frameworks.
  • An understanding of SEO and digital performance considerations is desirable.
  • Experience working in complex organisations (Higher Education, Public Sector or Commercial).
  • Previous experience working across Digital Services and Marketing teams, front-end and back-end of new website delivery.
