Job description

West of Scotland Clinical Perfusion Service - Annex 21 applies

Are you interested in a career within Healthcare Science with a high degree of autonomy and responsibility?  The Golden Jubilee University National Hospital in partnership with NES has an exciting opportunity to train and become a registered Clinical Perfusion Scientist, working within the field of cardiac surgery.

The West of Scotland Clinical Perfusion service provides support to both the Golden Jubilee University National Hospital and the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow.  There is an annual GJUNH workload of around 1400 cases, including cardiac transplantation and complex adult congenital cases. There are around 200 neonatal/paediatric cardiac surgical CPB procedures undertaken each year within the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow.

There are busy neonatal, paediatric and adult ECMO services across the two sites and a busy short-term VAD service at GJUNH.  Clinical Perfusion Scientists also have the responsibility of managing all technical aspects of the LTLVAD patients, including scrubbing and participation at the implant with follow up reviews at outpatient clinics.

The successful candidates must possess a minimum of a 2:1 BSc (hons) within a relevant life/biological sciences field for entry to the school of Clinical Perfusion Sciences, based within the medical school at Bristol University. The fully funded MSc course requires specific block week attendance across the academic calendar.

You will follow the Society of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great Britain and Ireland’s two-year training programme.  This involves the successful attainment of the MSc in Clinical Perfusion Science, while maintaining a professional clinical portfolio with onsite support and training at the GJUNH.  You will also undertake a practical and Viva Voce examination to gain Accreditation status and entry onto the professional register for autonomous clinical practice.

Should you wish any further information, please contact Mr. Patrick Campbell, Clinical Perfusion & SCP Manager via email on patrick.campbell@gjnh.scot.nhs.uk.
