Introduction

Join the team at Chadwick Lodge and Eaglestone View as a Consultant Psychiatrist and enjoy a caseload of around 25 service users, combination of a specialist female personality disorder ward with stepdown flats and a male secure rehabilitation ward. The job is ideal for a general or a forensic consultant with an interest in rehabilitation and/or personality disorder.

You will be supported by a full multidisciplinary team with junior doctor support on each ward. The hospital has regular visiting GPs and a primary care team. It is one of the biggest secure hospitals within the Elysium group, with current provision for 114 beds starting from medium secure to locked and acute provision and plans to develop further.  

The New Care Model programme delivered at Chadwick Lodge brings excellent opportunities for partnership working with peers across the Oxford provider collaborative to deliver secure services not only for the Oxford and Wessex regions but also other parts of the country like the Midlands and London but also from the Celtic heartlands like Wales and even Ireland.

The hospital has an established CPD programme and encourages collaboration with universities. It currently has academic links with Brunel University as well as The Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College, London. Participation in Royal College of Psychiatrists activities are also actively encouraged, with several consultants holding positions of importance within the College structure. The consultants have their own PDP peer group within the hospital. There are 2 other full-time and 3 part-time consultants as well as 5 AS doctors to cover the whole hospital.

Chadwick Lodge and Eaglestone View provides secure services for males and females in partnership with the NHS, as well as a female specialist DBT service and an acute male ward. Chadwick Lodge is situated in Milton Keynes, right next to the Milton Keynes General Hospital and has good rail and road links not only with London and the Midlands but also with Oxford and Cambridge. There are several good public and independent primary and secondary schools in the local area. Milton Keynes is a thriving township recently upgraded to a city with excellent educational and recreational facilities. It attracts very strong loyalty from its residents.

We seek to appoint a dynamic new full-time consultant for an established post vacated by the retirement of the current post-holder. The post-holder will be able to contribute to clinical governance processes within the hospital and the chance to contribute to the development of new and innovative services in the hospital based on the needs of the NHS.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Work with an RGN and GP provision to support physical health care
  • Supervision of associate specialists
  • Role in the assessment of referrals/admissions.
  • Care plan and treatment formulation including use of evidence-based treatment
  • Mental Health Act implementation, report completion and attendance at medico-legal meetings.
  • To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients including ensuring all NHSE contractual obligations are met (e.g. timely review of assessments etc in line with KPIs)
  • Contribution to clinical governance and responsibility for setting and monitoring standards
  • Participation in clinical audit and quality improvement activities
  • Maintenance of continuing professional development and appraisal requirements.
