Band 3 Occupational Therapy Support Worker – Community Learning Disabilities Team
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Occupational Therapy team within the Adult Learning Disabilities Service. We are a specialist team working across Edinburgh and West Lothian, committed to improving the quality of life and outcomes for our patient group. We welcome applications from enthusiastic, motivated and hard-working individuals to join our team who are committed to developing themselves, staff and the OT service.
Occupational Therapy Team based within the Community Learning Disabilities Teams (CLDT’s) provide assessment and intervention for adults with a Learning Disability, whose complex needs mean they cannot access mainstream services. The caseloads can include, patients with communication difficulties, dementia, mental health needs, Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities, autism, and behaviours which can be seen as challenging.
OT Support Workers, work with the OT’s to assist and implement assessment and treatment programmes. Work can include: ordering, collecting and installing items of equipment: skills development work, e.g. accessing public transport, food prep skills: researching and gathering information regarding activities suitable for our patients to engage in, developing accessible/readable resources (timetables, visiual prompts, symbols etc), assisting the OT with assessments and interventions, as well as some admin duties related to the OT team.
The OT team work closely with our multi-professional colleagues, including Social work, Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapy, Nursing, Psychology and Psychiatry to provided effective joined up assessment and intervention. Strong team work and communication skills are essential.
Professional supervision, training and development are integral to the service. We welcome applicants who have skills that can be transferred into Learning Disabilities Service and you will be supported to develop within this speciality.
