We are currently seeking an ambitious individual to join our team as an Strategic Planning & Stress Testing (SP&ST) Strategy and Framework Analyst, working together with colleagues to define, manage and achieve divisional business targets.

Role Purpose

This role is part of the Strategic Planning & Stress Testing (SP&ST) team within Finance. The SP&ST team is responsible for first line of defence activities related to scenario analysis, including climate change as described by the 3/19 Supervisory Statement.

In this role, you will assist the SP&ST Head of Strategy and Framework with the development and preparation of HSBC’s internal and regulatory stress testing submissions to the FRB, Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA), European Banking Authority (EBA) and, as appropriate, other regulators. Specifically, this person will be involved with:

The first line of defence accountability for forecasting Model Risk Management activities which includes

a) having a complete view of the stress testing model landscape,

b) working with key stakeholder to develop and manage a model development plan,

c) developing model management MI and d) ensuring compliance with model management policies and standards.

In this role, you will:

  • Support SP&ST in the design decisions, and ensure continued enhancement of SP&ST frameworks and standards that underpin key forecasting activities, such that timely, accurate and insightful management information on business performance can be provided to HSBC executives
  • Support the Head of Climate Strategy & Framework in the build-out of climate change stress testing capabilities across the Bank
  • Respond to regulatory requests
  • Prepare documentation and other materials to meet regulatory requirements around climate change 
  • Support SP&ST in the identification and quantification of HSBC Management actions including:
  • Oversee the translation of Stress Testing outputs, including Climate stress tests, into narratives that Business stakeholders can review and engage with as the basis of their work
  • Prepare presentations to internal and external stakeholders at various stages of the programme, including Board Presentations and reporting to investors / regulators, as required
  • Manage overlay of Business inputs onto climate change stress testing models to ensure sufficient time to quantify the impact of implementing actions
Requirements

To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Experience in Finance or Risk. Preferred experience in stress testing or risk analytics teams
  • Proven ability to translate quantitative analysis into clear outputs / narratives that can be understood by a diverse set of Senior stakeholders
  • Ability to understand & summarise technical details using non-technical language
  • Ability to form judgements and provide advice about a broad range of risk types (e.g. business, reputational regulatory risk) and its management
  • Has an eye for detail; is efficient, flexible and resilient
  • Ability to contribute to the design of an effective control framework to measure and manage those risks
  • Exceptional drive and commitment; ability to work and thrive in a fast changing, results driven environment; and proven ability in handling competing priorities          
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills, including ability to re-plan, manage interdependencies and execute against tight timelines
