The Group Strategic Planning & Stress Testing (SP&ST) function sits within Core Finance. The function is responsible for conducting Group-wide forecasting exercises, including the Financial Resource Plan (FRP), Internal Stress Tests (GIST), Reverse Stress Tests (RST), Recovery and Resolution Planning (RRP), Regulatory Stress Tests (e.g. BoE’s ACS and SST), and more recently, Climate Change Scenario Analysis (e.g. BoE Climate Biennial Exploratory Scenario (CBES)). It is also responsible for conducting ad-hoc forecasting analysis to advise the Group’s pivotal initiatives and risk management (e.g. identifying vulnerabilities and opportunities).

We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of Scenario Analyst - Strategic Planning & Stress Testing. This role will offer excellent opportunities for learning how HSBC’s performance is impacted under various scenarios and how analytics can advise senior decision making. It will also help the individual develop their technical, analytical, writing, and communication skills supported by a significant amount of senior exposure.

In this role, you will:
  • Support the team in analysing all Group-wide stress testing results;
  • Support in extraction, preparation, and assessment of data from multiple systems, liaising with Data Owners to resolve issues in a timely manner;
  • Identifying strategic insights and recommendations and producing the Group Governance MI;
  • Contribute in crafting and maintaining automated MI tools to be used by multiple users for analysing, understanding, and reporting stress test outcomes;
  • Support in reviewing, challenging, and analysing results to identify key insights for Risk, Finance, and the Businesses to consider;
  • Assist in the development and usage of analytical tools;
  • Support in the production of key outputs, including the writeup of Board papers and supporting materials.
Requirements

To be successful, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Previous experience in an analytical field; e.g. Credit risk and/or stress testing experience would be beneficial;
  • An understanding of banking and finance is crucial, including a typical bank’s business model, key business lines/products, and some of the core financial documents (e.g. P&L) and metrics;
  • Experience in sourcing, manipulating, and analysing large datasets in a controlled manner;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to produce concise reports;
  • Strong data visualisation skills in order to present insights and recommendations;
  • Excellent attention to detail in order to produce accurate reports in a timely manner;
  • Intermediate to advanced experience in using Microsoft Office applications is essential, particular Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Programming experience (e.g. R or Python) is desirable.

The base location for this role is 8 Canada Square, London.
