HSBC Middle Market Financial Sponsors Leveraged Finance are market leaders in the UK mid-market where we actively support the businesses and their private equity investors with the highest standard of professionalism, innovation and consistency.

The MMFS Syndicate team works alongside the UK MMFS Origination and Financial Sponsor Coverage teams focusing on managing underwrite and distribution risk, providing structuring support and solutions on multi-lender transactions and maintaining relationships with HBUK’s External Lending Partners.

We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join our team in the role of Associate Director. The position is to assist the Head of the MMFS Syndicate team in delivery of underwritten and coordinated transactions and to continue to help drive multi-lender propositions to support the MMFS UK teams. 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing support to the MMFS Origination and FSC teams in identifying and reviewing mid-market underwrite and coordination opportunities.
  • Assisting in production of pitch materials for multi-lender financing opportunities to support MMFS Origination, FSC and M&A teams. 
  • Providing syndicate support for underwrite risk. Assisting in production of CAC materials, Syndication Support statements and Syndication Strategy Slides.
  • Liaising with external investors (banks/funds) on distribution opportunities. Supporting the MMFS Syndicate team in continuing to develop the MMFS Lending Partners proposition.
  • Production of market update slides and comps analysis to support MMFS teams. Providing updates to MMFS/LC teams on key trends in the Leveraged Loan Market.
  • Significant interaction with key internal stakeholder groups including MMFS, FSC, FSG, LC, LAF and CMBO.
  • Involvement in the external market place with professionals, sponsors, clients and lenders.
  • Ensuring consistent application of Group Policy and adhere to regulatory, financial, and legal standards to minimize business and reputational risks.
  • Encourage constructive cross-country and cross-business teamwork that enables delivery of the financial growth plan for the UK business, whilst promoting and demonstrating the values of HSBC and its Charter.
Requirements

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Experience working in relevant Leveraged Finance or M&A transaction environments, or a Corporate Banking team involved in transactional work similar to that of a Leveraged Finance team is essential 
  • Understanding of the Leveraged Loan Market and structures/products available to sponsors within the market.
  • Both spoken and written communication skills with experience of analysing and summarising high volumes of business and transactional information under significant time pressure, whilst adapting your style and approach to the audience and message to be delivered – essential 
  • Influencing skills and ability to builds positive working relationships with our customers, colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Experience of using various credit analysis techniques, insight into lending and extensive business knowledge to lead and shape and negotiate complex lending solutions – essential 
  • A track record of gaining and understanding of customers' needs and delivering excellent customer service.
  • Experience of planning and prioritising your own time effectively and adhering to strict deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and financial skills including ability to analyse company financial statements. Grounding in financial modelling / LBO modelling preferred.
  • Anticipates and identifies risks and ensures appropriate steps are taken to mitigate and manage them
  • Role relevant qualifications and / or willingness to undertake the training/study required in this role, such as professional qualifications as required by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) and including Successful completion of the certificate in Corporate Finance examination to achieve Approved Person status within two years of joining.

The base location of this role will be Canada Square or Queen Victoria Street, London.
