GCB5 - Legal Counsel – HSBC Asset Management (non-alternatives)
 
We are currently seeking a Legal Counsel within the HSBC Asset Management (non-alternatives) to join the HSBC Legal Team. 
 
This role is a part of the HSBC Legal function within the Wealth and Private Banking division, working exclusively for Asset Management to provide investment management, advisory and regulatory advice. The role is providing legal advice, guidance and support to relevant UK Asset Management businesses in relation to the full range of its activities, including institutional mandates, discretionary wealth management services, funds, distribution and platform arrangements and associated service agreements. 
 
The role-holder will work alongside the Senior Legal Counsel to:
  • Provide counsel and legal support on a variety of legal matters to Asset Management, including matters that may be complex or may have some impact across business entities or jurisdictions, in relation to new product development, regulatory change and interpretation, strategic initiatives, change management and innovation;
  • Provide support to Head of Legal and AM business with regard to management of legal risks and designing suitable controls;
  • Be considered a trusted advisor to the business by providing commercially sensitive, pragmatic and practical legal support and advice in a cost effective manner;
  • Support HSBC’s Conduct Policy to ensure good client outcomes and to fully participate in and support the strategic objectives of AM and the objectives of the wider HSBC Legal Function; including contributing to a supportive, inclusive and enabling working environment;
  • Work with other legal team members to support an effective culture and network, including with external counsel, to influence and contribute to the business and its strategic objectives. 
Requirements
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
  • Qualified lawyer with demonstrable experience, in either regulatory or asset management and relevant sector experience gained either within an inhouse financial institution or private practice is essential;
  • Knowledge and experience of UK fund structures, fund and asset management regulation and/or and the financial services regulatory environment in the UK and Europe, particularly sustainable investment regulation is highly desirable;
  • Corporate experience and Compliance experience an advantage, but not essential;
  • Ability to prioritise is essential;
  • Good communication and inter-personal skills are essential.
