Role Purpose:

HSBC is accelerating its research effort on developing quantum algorithms with a focus on applications within Financial Services. The successful candidate will participate in ongoing research projects and set new research directions in quantum computing where we can develop and apply advantage guarantees of algorithms for fault-tolerant quantum computers to NISQ hardware.

Significant results will be published in peer-reviewed journals and/or patented. As well as the research focus, this role will also be involved in contributing to the strategic direction of the bank and leading collaborative engagements with government, industry and university.

This role is part of the Global Digital Innovation team and will offer the successful candidate an incredible opportunity to find commercially viable applications for qubits and small scale quantum processers. The candidate will be able to rapidly establish themselves as a quantum computing expert in the domain of Financial Services. 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Carry out original research, based both on your own ideas and relevant areas of the bank that may benefit from quantum advantage
  • Author manuscripts and see them through the publication process
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert for your area, provide knowledge sharing sessions and thought leadership
  • Lead / support grant proposals
Requirements

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Knowledge of research topics in quantum information and quantum algorithms
  • Published research in at least one of the aforementioned topics
  • Awareness with NISQ devices and implementation of quantum algorithms on such hardware
  • Programming experience in quantum algorithms

The base location for this role will be 8 Canada Square, London with hybrid working
