Introduction

Come join the team as a Consultant Psychiatrist at The Woodmill, a brand new locked rehabilitation service for women in the centre of Cullompton, Devon.  It’s a great time to join and help shape this new service as part of a new multidisciplinary team where you can make a real impact.

Cullompton is ideally situated for rural living with proximity to the coast and several areas of outstanding natural beauty. It is also situated close to the cities of Exeter and Taunton which provide national rail services, including to London.

Working 37.5 hours a week, you will work with the multidisciplinary team in delivering patient centered care. There is a part time associate specialist to support medical input to the service. 

The Woodmill is an 18 bedded unit providing care within a locked setting with a goal of helping them return to community life.  Patients will generally be detained under the Mental Health Act.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Management of complex cases
  • Care plan and treatment formulation, guidance on evidence-based treatment and effectiveness
  • Liaison and collaborative working with care co-ordinators, commissioners, families and carers and other services/agencies
  • Mental Health Act implementation and liaison with Ministry of Justice (if applicable)
  • Multi-disciplinary, multi-agency and partnership working including oversight of the physical health management of patients in partnership with the visiting General Practitioner
  • Administrative duties associated with the care of patients including ensuring all NHSE contractual obligations are met
  • Contribution to clinical governance and responsibility for setting and monitoring standards
  • Participation in clinical audit and quality improvement activities and service/team evaluation and the planning of future service developments
  • Maintenance of professional registration with the General Medical Council and to abide by professional codes of conduct

To be successful working as a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will need:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Full GMC registration with licence to practice
  • MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • To hold Section 12(2) approval to work in England and Approved clinician status.
  • Previous experience working in rehabilitation settings and working within women’s mental health is desirable.
