Job description

Senior – Alternative Investment Funds Tax Technology

The team

The partnership and funds tax team at EY acts for a wide range of UK and international alternative investment funds, private equity houses and professional partnerships. The services that we deliver include partnership advisory work, UK fund reporting, deal & fund structuring and fund advisory projects. We work closely with our Private Client Services team advising principals of private equity firms and providing both personal tax compliance and advisory work in relation to their affairs. Our international network results in our team undertaking a high proportion of cross border tax services.

We are looking for a creative and innovative problem solver who enjoys using a wide variety of technology tools to develop strategic and tactical solutions for our Private Equity Funds tax engagements.

The role is highly varied and requires you to be detail orientated, a great communicator and have excellent technical skills including business analysis, data wrangling and data modelling skills.

The opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and ambitious individual to join EY’s Funds Tax team. The successful candidate will work as part of our integrated technology team to provide a market leading tax compliance and advisory service to our clients. You will work as part of a small, specialised technology group to maintain existing technology tools as well as contribute to the design of new builds. Although you will be positioned in a client facing role within the domain of a Big Four private equity tax team, the majority of your time will be dedicated to the continuous improvement of our technology – which will include the maintenance of existing builds and also the design and development of new and more advanced solutions.

What you will do

  • Convert complex client structures, tax rules and source client data in to data models
  • Create reports for our clients’ investors to enable them to understand our tax analysis
  • Perform data analytics on client data to identify inconsistencies and added value
  • Build, maintain and customise user friendly tools for client engagements
  • You will be client facing as well as offering technology support to the engagement team
  • Provide technology expertise on client proposals
  • Work with our tax experts to find pragmatic approaches to problems in a mixed environment of tax and data
  • Continuously research, evaluate and present new technology services and solutions that fit the business needs
  • Continuously improve and automate processes and tools

About you

The successful candidate will be detail orientated, pragmatic and a self-learner. You should also have strong communication skills and be able to explain technical issues in a clear way to non-technical users. The skills below would also be very useful – if you already have these then great but if not then we can provide training and on the job coaching.

  • You should be eager to be an expert user of Excel, Power Query (M), Power Pivot (DAX) and VBA.
  • Excel modelling/development experience
  • Data modelling experience
  • Experience of improving and automating processes
  • Nice to have:
    • Basic web programming (e.g. HTML, CSS)
    • Understanding of accounting and tax concepts

What we offer

  • Continuous learning: You’ll develop the mindset and skills to navigate whatever comes next.
  • Success as defined by you: We’ll provide the tools and flexibility, so you can make a meaningful impact, your way.
  • Transformative leadership: We’ll give you the insights, coaching and confidence to be the leader the world needs.
  • Diverse and inclusive culture: You’ll be embraced for who you are and empowered to use your voice to help others find theirs.
