Job description

Introduction

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapy Assistant to work across both wards at Spring Wood Lodge.

The successful candidate will ideally have experience of working within a mental health setting, have an enthusiastic and motivational approach to working with the service user population, be flexible and person centred with a keen focus on fostering hope and the achievement of individuals’ personal recovery goals.

In addition to the above qualities, the successful candidate will have relevant experience and skills in health promotion for example devising and delivering bespoke exercise programmes, supporting individuals who lack motivation to implement healthy lifestyle behaviours and be able to adapt these, with support of a registered Occupational Therapist, to the needs of our service users. Therefore, a qualification in Health or Fitness is essential.

A significant aspect of the role is supporting service users to identify and work towards or return to a life they find personally rewarding and meaningful irrespective of disability.  As such the post holder will also be required to support service users in community settings, promoting confidence accessing community resources, developing or enhancing physical well-being and gaining their optimum levels of function, achieving a positive quality of life.

Due to the community elements of the role, a driving license is advantageous.

Patients may suffer from mental illness and personality disorder.  Patients at the Unit are detained under the Mental Health Act.  Referrals are taken from many sources including psychiatric hospitals, prisons and the courts.

The workforce of the organisation is multidisciplinary; a significant proportion of those are employed within the clinical disciplines, in addition other departments provide support services.

 

Safeguarding

All employees have a responsibility for the safeguarding of service users detained within Elysium Healthcare.

Employees have a duty to attend the training provided by Elysium Healthcare regarding Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children. 

Employees must make themselves familiar with the types of abuse, the signs that abuse has taken place and the definition of an adult at risk of neglect or abuse.

Employees will report all safeguarding incidents to their line manager and use the IRIS document to record all the required detailed information.
