Digital Workspace Engineer

Home. There’s no place like it. And there’s no feeling like helping people create the joy of feeling truly at home. At Dunelm, that’s what we do.

We’re the UK's number one choice for homewares – we’re ambitious about our brand, about being a good company, and about profitable growth.

You might not think it, but remaining the first choice for savvy homeware-shoppers involves some advanced tech. We’ve recently became the largest user of AWS Lambdas in Europe (second in the world), and we’re bringing more and more tech into our stores and support sites.

The Team

The Digital Workspace Team is Dunelm’s end-user compute focused team. We have a joint responsibility for both development and support work and manage an estate of around 5000 devices and 11,000 colleagues across multiple key sites and 170+ stores. Our team was formed around 6-7 years ago to create a centre of excellence for modern desktop technologies where we had been lacking before. Since then, we have migrated the entire business off Windows 7 to Windows 10, implemented Microsoft 365, established robust and modern deployment technologies, and empowered our colleagues and guests with the latest tech. We are now well established and well known around the business for our hard work and the benefits we regularly deliver.

Our team is mature, hardworking, and currently consists of 3 engineers (with this role becoming the 4th), a Tech Lead and a Principal Engineer. We operate a relaxed environment, where everyone is easy to get on with and have a range of different interests and specialities. We work closely together to solve problems, educate each other, and support each other when needed.

The key areas we cover include desktop and mobile computing, hardware and software collaboration tooling, client-side infrastructure such as MDM and identity management, as well as application and security patch deployments. In addition to this, we also own the administration of Microsoft 365 services.

The Role

You will be a key member of our team and report directly to the Digital Workspace Tech Lead. Day-to-day, you will be responsible for leading the delivery of projects of varying scale and scope through all stages including solution design, proof of concept and implementation. Projects often involve the roll out of new services or devices to our colleagues and this involves working closely with all areas of the business and understanding their key processes.

You will also be part of our “BAU” rota which will see you assist and educate our Service Support teams when they come to you with escalations or queries and perform basic monitoring of key tools such as anti-virus and vulnerability management. We also operate a very lightly utilised, out of hours rota to cover urgent escalations and emergencies relevant to our area. This is currently one week in six and there is freedom to swap within the team where needed.

In addition to the above, we have regular, Agile ceremonies such as Stand-ups, Refinements and Retrospectives and the whole team gets a chance to feed into our strategic roadmap and ways of working via regular feedback sessions, strategy days and team away days.
