Our technology teams in the UK work closely with HSBC’s global businesses to help design and build digital services that allow our millions of customers around the world, to bank quickly, simply and securely. We also run and manage our IT infrastructure, data centres and core banking systems that power the world’s leading international bank.  Our multi-disciplined teams include: DevOps engineers, IT architects, front and back end developers, infrastructure specialists, cyber experts, as well as project and programme managers.

Global Debt Markets Technology is currently being structured to build a high performing Technology team that will partner with the business to grow and capitalise on HSBC’s strengths (global presence, customer and emerging markets focus) with the business aiming to become a major player in the global debt market.  The primary aim of the technology is to develop and support the IT systems that allow the business to be successful. Credit & Rates Risk is critical for the business to function - Risk Management is an obvious focus of the team, with direct impact to Front Office and the team’s ethos is to enable the business to grow and continue to generate revenue by delivering robust and scalable IT systems

Role Description

  • Technical Lead of the Rates Live Risk Development team
  • Technical Architecture, Optimisation, Maintenance and Expansion of existing GDM Rates platform
  • Functional Leadership across a number of deliveries including Regulatory, Revenue Generating & other
  • Alignment of Technical Strategy to Functional deliverables

Responsibilities

  • Technical Architecture for GDM Rates Risk
  • Technical Leadership & Growth for GDM Rates Team globally
  • Ownership of Live Risk, Market Data, Calibration systems for Rates
  • Ownership of the trade workflow for Rates Risk
  • Full ownership of technical & functional requirements
  • Engagement and alignment with business & technical stakeholders
  • Ownership of Compute software development lifecycle
  • Automation of tooling with regards to testing and deployment
  • Small and frequent releases
  • Ownership of Support model for Rates Functions. The team adheres to a DevOps model and all is expected to support the production availability of their service
  • Responsible for engaging and aligning Product owners, Quants, Front office, consumers on E2E delivery of functional deliverables
Requirements

Essential Skillset/Experience

  • Proactive self-starter able to take initiative and get things done with top-notch problem-solving skills
  • Experience of building and operating successful high performance distributed systems
  • Core Java development knowledge - data structures, concurrency, multithreading and modern JVMs
  • JVM monitoring, profiling, tuning, and debugging
  • Ability to apply test driven development (TDD)
  • Familiar with SQL/relational databases as well as NOSQL technologies
  • Proficient and effective in both Linux and Windows
  • Capable of working in a DevOps/ agile environment and culture, ownership of development and production
  • Ability to work as part of a large global and communicate effectively with Front office stakeholders, Quants and consumers (when necessary)

Nice to have

  • C++ programming experience
  • Knowledge of regulatory reporting (VAR,FRTB)
  • Prior architectural solution definition
  • Ability to learn new business product lines

The role will be based in London but some travel may be required. This role supports Hybrid working
