Java Development Lead - Trade & Transaction Reporting in Sheffield

Role Description

The Trade and Transaction Reporting IT Team (T&TR) is an IT engineering organisation that supports and maintains a portfolio of shared services within MSS.

This role initially sits within the Americas Jurisdictions (CFTC, CSA, SEC) T&TR team who maintain and enhance a suite of Java based services to facilitate trade reporting in a timely manner to our Regulators. The service is primarily built to enable the real-time reporting of GB&M trade information to external regulatory bodies.  This requires in-depth review of business requirements alongside third party Global Trade Repository specifications and our Regulator stipulations to ensure full compliance with the scope of what is reported, with accuracy of the content, the compliance with the message specification and the timeliness within which it is reported.

Responsibilities

  • Building location capability (new development centre for T&TR)
  • Managing a team of engineers
  • Coordinating and contributing to development, alongside oversight of technical changes (pull request reviews etc)
  • Mentoring and developing junior members of the team
  • Remediation – assisting with investigation of defects and advise on corrective changes
  • Maintain code base
  • Simplification of the AMER solution, abstracting away from Coherence implementations
  • Assist Operations with remediation efforts through tooling and building upon existing capabilities
  • Liaise with Asset Class IT teams to supply mandatory inputs to the Trade Reporting Service (TRS)
  • Working within a POD with a defined charter
Requirements

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years experience in Java development
  • Degree in Computer Science or related discipline
  • Experience managing a team of engineers
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to learn and quick to adapt to changing requirements
  • Proactive approach to identifying issues, presenting solutions and options
  • Familiar with DevOps concepts and SRE
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proven track record of delivery
  • Continuous Integration / Build processes
  • Self-motivated person who is enthusiastic and has proven fast learning capability

Nice to have

  • Environment, Change and Release Management background
  • Software Configuration Management / Branching / Version Control
  • Knowledge of Microservices based architecture and patterns.
  • Knowledge of cloud concepts and cloud architecture, different types of cloud computing (preferably GCP).
  • Knowledge of DevOps concepts & tools like GitHub/Jenkins, Jira, Confluence.
  • Experience using the following technologies: git, Jira
  • Understanding of Google SRE practices and concepts 
  • Investment Banking and/or Regulatory Reporting experience

The role will be based in Sheffield, but some travel may be required. This role supports Hybrid working
