Job Title: Cyber Security Data Scientist

Our technology teams in the UK work closely with HSBC’s global businesses to help design and build digital services that allow our millions of customers around the world, to bank quickly, simply and securely. We also run and manage our IT infrastructure, data centres and core banking systems that power the world’s leading international bank.

Our multi-disciplined teams include: DevOps engineers, IT architects, front and back end developers, infrastructure specialists, cyber experts, as well as project and programme managers.

 

Role Description:

The Senior Data Engineer role is responsible as a development lead for designing, building and maintaining multiple Cybersecurity analytic pipelines and applications, partnering closely with the Hunt team and Global Cybersecurity Operations teams.

 

Responsibilities:

·         Design, build, deliver, and maintain multiple Cybersecurity analytic pipelines and applications, partnering closely with the Hunt team and Global Cybersecurity Operations team.

·         Work closely with highly capable team of software engineers and data scientists focused on delivering high quality data and analytic focused applications in the cloud.

·         Build and maintain big data analytics and machine learning pipelines running in the cloud.

·         Deliver large scale cybersecurity focused software systems while following Agile best practices.

·         Partner and collaborate closely with the other parts of CS&A to jointly solve problems for customers and stakeholders.

·         Participation in special projects on behalf of HSBC and CS&A leadership.

Requirements

Essential Skillset/Experience:

·         A strong background in software engineering with experience in full stack development and data analytics.

·         Actively encourages a learning culture, encouraging collaboration and cross-functional working to develop and nurture teams and identify talent. 

·         Strong expertise working in cybersecurity such as threat detection, threat intelligence, malware analysis, vulnerability management, security operations, red team/blue team, and/or security engineering.

·         Experience developing threat detection use cases in Azure Sentinel, Databricks, or Splunk.

·         Experience in building and maintaining complex cloud-based applications in Azure (preferred) or other major cloud platforms.

·         Experience building applications using RDBMS such as PostgreSQL/MySQL and NoSQL DBs such as Cassandra/HBase/Elasticsearch/etc.

·         Data analytics experience in Databricks, and/or analytics experience with large scale data warehouses such as Snowflake, Redshift, or Presto.

·         Experience with data processing including log parsing/extraction, data transformation, data cleansing, and data analytics.

·         Experience with the python data science ecosystem (jupyter, pandas, NumPy, matplotlib, etc.)

·         Intermediate to advanced abilities developing queries in SQL, KustoQL, and/or SPL

·         Experience building and maintaining machine learning applications in production.

·         Advanced level knowledge and demonstrated experience in developing and deploying real-time analysis capability of large scale and often diverse data sets, that enable more effective, efficient, and coordinated defence capabilities.

 

The role will be based in Sheffield.
