We currently have an opportunity for a Head of Model Risk Management within Global Banking 

The primary objective of this role is to set up and manage a team that will enable the GB business to manage its model risk more effectively across capital, credit risk, pricing, and other related models where the business is a sponsor, owner or user of a given model. In doing so the role holder will be expected to articulate in commercial terms the impact that model risk has on both the strategy and performance of the franchise while ensuring commercial realities are surfaced into the model development process.

This entails providing thought leadership, direction, and expertise in founding the capability, building a diverse, inclusive, and high performing team, designing a target operating model and setting of performance objectives.

The key aspect of the role is to provide ideation, design, delivery, and implementation of opportunities in models and model management that will support business and deliver value with the following outcomes:

§  Financial efficiency: returns, financial performance & other activity impacting financial resources

§  Business efficiency: improved business tooling, systems, or models, which reflect business factors and views of the frontline, leading to confidence in results

§  Strategic enablement: supporting the delivery of GB/Wholesale strategy

§  Process improvement: the efficiency and delivery of models, tools, capabilities

§  Compliance: supporting the business to meet regulatory commitments

The main responsibilities include providing expertise and support to business model sponsors and users to ensure that models as developed meet the requirements of the sponsor, are built using the most appropriate input data sources and that those models lead to the expected outcomes when implemented into the business processes. This will include engagement with strategy teams to ensure business strategy informs the model pipeline, developing monitoring processes, providing advice on remedial action and where necessary leading targeted projects to drive process or model changes.

As part of a global team the role will involve working with multiple regional teams with a view to implementing best practice in terms of model risk management, return optimisation opportunities as a function of using the models and introducing the best of those ideas and processes across regions.

The role is highly complex, combining specialism and expertise from multiple disciplines (e.g. modelling, model risk management, credit risk, portfolio management, analytics and insights, capital measurement) that is underpinned by strong commercial acumen and mindset.

 

Requirements

·         Broad-based banking experience in financial or professional services with preference for those who have focused on credit & lending products

·         Ideally will have expert knowledge in one of the following areas: model risk governance; capital, credit risk or pricing model implementation; commercial lending

·         Clear understanding of current regulatory expectations with regards to model development standards

·         Good understanding of quantitative techniques with the ability to translate topics into straightforward business outcomes

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience of preparing comprehensive materials and communicating key messages and recommendations to senior management and other stakeholders

·         Strong influencing, interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills

·         Strong planning, time management and problem-solving skills

·         Result oriented and team player who can foster strong and collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders
