As a Health & Safety Officer, to ensure that the hospital meets all the requirements under Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (HSWA) Management of the Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (MHSWR) and Elysium Fire Risk assessments. You will ideally have clinical or operational experience within a secure mental health facility and/or prison

Working 37.5 hours a week alongside the Facilities Manager, you will ensure the environment is maintained to a high standard of repair and meets requirements from a Health & Safety and security perspective

Your Responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring and Providing evidence that health & safety policies/procedures are adhered to and provide guidance and support where necessary, adhering to Corporate health and safety manuals, current legislation and Health and Safety Executive guidance criteria as the minimum standards to be maintained
  • Providing detailed reports to the Hospital Governance Group and multi-disciplinary teams in relation to security and safety as required.
  • Work closely with Heads of Departments in devising and implementing health and safety strategies to include methods of risk identification, assessment and control measures to reduce and protect against such risks.
  • Monitoring accidents, incidents and near misses in the hospital(s) and across via the IRIS2 system, ensuring the accident reporting procedure is followed and by taking the relevant steps to minimise the risk of reoccurrence and ensuring they are investigated and where appropriate, ensure that enforcement authorities are notified, e.g. HSE

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Knowledge and experience within a healthcare environment – desirable
  • IOSHH registration – required
  • NEBOSH Certificate and/or Diploma would be an advantage, and potential development available if not
