Our technology teams in the UK work closely with HSBC’s global businesses to help design and build digital services that allow our millions of customers around the world, to bank quickly, simply and securely. We also run and manage our IT infrastructure, data centres and core banking systems that power the world’s leading international bank. Our multi-disciplined teams include DevOps Engineers, IT Architects, Front and Back-End Developers, Infrastructure specialists, Cyber experts, as well as Project and Programme Managers.

Following extensive investment across our Technology and Digital domains and with plans for continued expansion throughout 2023 and beyond, we are currently seeking experienced individuals to join HSBC Technology. 

Traded Risk IT is an important global functional unit responsible for delivering risk management IT solutions to support all HSBC’s regions and Traded Risk business lines, ensuring that risk performance is in accordance with the Group Risk Strategy. 

The Head of Market Risk IT is responsible for overseeing the development, maintenance and support of technology solutions to manage market risk within the organisation

Role Description

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to lead the Market Risk Global Technology team. Reporting into Head of Traded Risk IT, the Head of Market Risk IT will lead a global team of approximately 250 people on all aspects of the Market Risk technology deliveries including design, architecture, resourcing, costs, production stability and risk and controls.  The Head of Market Risk IT will work in partnership across other Traded Risk and MSS platforms to drive the delivery of Technology solutions for all Traded Risk value streams

Responsibilities

The role will also be responsible for developing and delivering the Market Risk technology roadmap and will sponsor the continued adoption of DevOps and agile principles and ensure that the Market Risk platforms are well maintained, stable and secure.

Responsibilities will include:-

  • Build a diverse team and an inclusive culture which promotes psychological safety.
  • Work with technology teams to design and develop market risk management platforms.
  • Drive teams to design secure, performant systems utilising latest technology
  • Promote technology sharing and leverage operating environments to achieve greater cost efficiency.
  • Proactively managing the annual Service Sustainability programme.
  • Ensure that market risk management systems are integrated with other risk management systems and business processes
  • Stay up to date with industry development and regulatory requirements
  • Lead adoption of DevOps and Agile principles and culture
  • Lead and develop an effective global team
  • Continually improve quality and velocity for the team.
  • Optimise resources globally to create an integrated team leveraging the capabilities of staff globally
  • Ensure all required architectural artefacts and documentation are current and accurate.
  • Manage an annual budget in excess of $35m across both Change the Bank and Run the Bank budget lines.
  • Manage an effective relationship with business and transformation partners, third party vendors and global technology teams.
Requirements

Essential Skillset/Experience

  • Experience in leading medium to large technology teams
  • Strong understanding of financial markets and knowledge of market risk management methodologies would be a benefit but not essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work collaboratively with business stakeholders, risk management teams and technology teams.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to market risk management technology would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Self-motivated and willing to learn new technologies and business domain
  • Experience of working in an Agile and/or DevOps team or on dev ops transformation initiatives would be a benefit.
  • Proven track record of working on significant projects from conception to completion

The role will be based in London, but some travel may be required. This role supports Hybrid working
