Summary

  • Accountable to deliver data technology outcomes from the WPB and GOA value streams with primary stakeholder being business value stream leads such as WPB Heads of Data & Analytics, and WPB Heads of Data in DAO.
  • Responsible to support the Group CDAO and CIO, GDT on the broader execution of the Group Data Strategy e.g., build reusable data assets, local hosted data platforms and group-wide data products and capabilities.
  • Responsible to manage senior stakeholders across business value stream leads, DAO Head of Data and Markets to oversee, prioritize and de-duplicate relevant data technology demand, based on Group Data Strategy direction, business growth initiatives, regulatory requirements, automation and simplification (data storage and tooling) agenda
  • Represent WPB and GOA business value stream leads, and assist the Data CIO, GDT in the final budget allocation and re-prioritization for “Data At Scale” program, and be responsible for identifying, delivering, and tracking Data @ Scale benefits cross-function/business in context of WPB and GOA.
  • Responsible for adoption of group standards, policies and services. Champions data management and data driven architecture design in cross-business, group led initiatives.
  • Share best practice across Technology and DAO area and partner with peers to drive data driven cultural change initiatives, enabling a data led business

Impact on the Business

  • Partner with WPB and GOA business value stream leads to deliver data technology outcomes via relevant DAO and Technology programme, in line with the Group Data Strategy and Group Technology Strategy
  • Champion and implement data commercialisation, regulatory, and transformation initiatives
  • Oversee ongoing adherence to Data Transformation and Delivery principles from WPB Technology and Global Operations & Automation perspective
  • Implement HSBC Transformation / Change Framework
  • Implement the use of a consistent transformation benefit template across GB/GF
  • Lead and execute regional data driven initiatives as required

Customers / Stakeholders

  • Form part of the WPB and GOA extended business leadership as the champion for data technology delivery
  • Work with key business stakeholders (COO, CIO, Architecture, Data Leads, Finance, Operational Risk Stewards, Chief Control Officer, Head of Analytics, Data Privacy, Legal, Regional Data & Architecture Office) to implement Group Data Strategy & Group Technology Strategy
  • Provide oversight of data transformation programmes in market and region for their area as appropriate
  • Liaise with internal / external stakeholders including both local and Group regulatory bodies with respect Data Transformation activities
  • Work with the business/functions to implement a timely and effective data strategy and technology strategy
  • Working with Risk Steward to oversight data risk and define path to green activity and support internal audit activity
  • Lead data-related Regulatory reviews and engage with Regulatory Compliance upon request

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Support WPB and GOA business value stream leads to deliver data technology outcomes via relevant DAO and Technology programme, and ensure strong collaboration across the global businesses functions
  • Provide leadership and consultancy to each global business / global function to define their business level data transformation journey
  • Collaborate with peers across the region and globally to improve the data literacy across Technology
  • Develop and maintain relationships with business partners/functions to support transformation delivery
  • Work with delivery partners to mobilize implementation programs needed to delivery core functionaly (process, people, and technology) across the organization

Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Reduce complexity of information flows across the firm resulting in reduced cost, improved data quality and enhanced controls reducing operational risk
  • Review and implement WPB and GOA business value stream outcomes with a focus on:
    • Simplification resulting in a reduction of number of systems, servers and storage
    • Reduced number of data reconciliations reducing operational cost
    • Improve data quality to financial and regulatory reporting reducing reputational and regulatory risk
  • Partner with technology to design and delivery Future State Architecture and reduce use of redundant data stores
  • To implement the Group compliance policy locally by containing compliance risk in liaison with the Head of Group Compliance, Global Business Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer, ensuring adequate compliance resources and training, fostering a compliance culture and optimizing relations with regulators
Requirements

Functional Knowledge

  • Experience running enterprise level data management programs at a large financial services institution 
  • Strong Experience working with senior stakeholders in a global environment
  • Significant experience of working with/leading multi-year programmes
  • Leading a Change function in a large financial institution
  • Understanding both RTB and CTB concept in Technology function
  • Experience managing teams, planning demand and managing resource capacity
  • Solid delivery record
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure with competing and rapidly changing priorities
  • Ability to develop cohesive working relationships with internal/external stakeholders
  • Active industry knowledge of the current state of data management trends 
  • Project/Programme Management skills (project planning and tracking; Issue identification and management; project status reporting) 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 15+ years of experience dealing directly with transformation
  • Proven record of making sound judgments, effective leadership, including the ability to balance team and individual responsibilities; building teams and consensus; getting things done through others not directly under his/her supervision; and working ethically and with integrity 
  • Proven record of effective management, including planning and decision-making, identifying priorities and bringing projects to successful completion in a timely manner; and maintaining a focus on high standards and quality 
  • Strong interpersonal skills – ability to work across organizations at all levels
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills 
  • Strong written communications skills – ability to clearly document the current state and recommendations
