Are you ready to make a significant impact by transforming data into actionable insights at Pets at Home? We're on the lookout for a talented Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer to drive the adoption of our BI environment and contribute to our commitment to providing excellent pet care services.

About the Role

We’re seeking a talented BI Engineer to play a crucial role in shaping our data landscape and enhancing decision-making processes. If you're a creative problem-solver with expertise in BI platforms, and a knack for delivering insightful dashboards, we want to hear from you!

As a BI Engineer, you will take the raw data that lands in our data lake and work to clean, refine and categorise it so that colleagues can then utilise it. You’ll work within our Data Platform team and on a hybrid basis from our Support Office in Handforth (Cheshire).

Key responsibilities will include;

  • Driving BI Adoption: Leading the development of cutting-edge dashboards and MI to elevate our Business Intelligence environment
  • End-to-End Collaboration: Guiding business colleagues from requirements capture to build, test and delivery phases
  • Designing and Developing: Defining, designing and maintaining high-performance BI applications and data pipelines, ensuring data quality standards are met
  • Evangelising Data Capabilities: Promoting our data platform across departments, bringing in relevant data and contributing to future data-product solutions
  • Documentation: Maintaining clear and concise technical documentation to facilitate easy understanding and usage of our data platform
  • Maintenance and Support: Providing ongoing support for existing reporting dashboards, BI products and data pipelines
  • Analytics and Growth: Actively contributing to data analytics and driving improvements through the adoption of new techniques
  • Efficient Design Principles: Applying efficient design and development principles to transform and load data for MI production
  • Collaborative Design: Working closely with business stakeholders to design BI layouts that deliver relevant, clear and succinct insights
  • Knowledge Sharing: Extending and sharing expertise within the team, contributing to product innovation
  • Support: Providing 2nd line support and assisting 1st line support colleagues as required

About you

Experience/Knowledge;

  • Advanced knowledge of coding syntax and query languages (e.g., SQL).
  • Proficiency in BI platforms and tools (PowerBI, Tableau, Business Objects, Looker, GCP, etc.)
  • Experience with dbt and orchestration tools like Airflow
  • Strong knowledge of data warehouse design and best practices
  • Familiarity with version control and CICD/DevOps processes
  • experience designing optimal dashboards and/or data models
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, R, C#, Java (Desirable)
  • Mentoring and training experience (Desirable)
  • Project leadership experience (Desirable)
