Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative, award-winning London-based Material Science company. They are leaders within their field and are entering an exciting phase of scale-up and commercialisation. Due to the natural growth of the business, they are looking for an IP Manager to join their commercial team. What you will be doing? Build and evolve their IP strategy in relation to the companys current and future product universe and commercial plans. Manage the development, documentation, and maintenance of all IP generated across the companys functions with an emphasis on IP generated within the innovation function. Identify various types of IP generated within their innovation function and work with the functional (commercial, operations, and innovation) leadership teams to strategically determine whether the IP generated is to be patented, published, or considered a trade secret. Build an ever-evolving awareness of the IP landscape, in which their product universe sits, by tracking all external and internal developments, and maintain a high level of protection over prior art and newly protected IP. Work with their external IP counsel to draft and file patents, manage and address patent examinations, and generally manage their patent portfolio as it grows. Build appropriate internal systems to manage IP as it is being developed to streamline patenting processes. What are they looking for?

Minimum of 5 years experience in IP protection and/or management; Minimum of Masters level qualification in intellectual property law, relevant sciences (chemistry, biology, environmental sciences, earth system science, etc.), or business management; Experience in working on managing patents, trademarks, and trade-secrets related to scientific innovations, supported by evidence of individual contributions; LPC qualified candidates preferred; Minimum of 3 years experience as a patent attorney or IP counsel preferred; Strategic oversight and management of IP transfer through licensing models; Experience in managing patents throughout the full lifecycle from drafting, through examination, grant, maintenance, and prosecution, to expiry; Exposure to or involvement in IP negotiations between licensors and licensees coupled with experience in the development and amendment of licensing agreements.
