Job description

Flood Risk Engineer Coventry Council are looking for a Senior Flood Risk Engineer to assist them with the Management of Local Flood Risk Strategy. The position is to develop and deliver the Council's Local Flood Risk Management Strategy, Flood Risk Assessments, and the Surface Water Management Plan, also to be responsible for providing technical advice to colleagues in both Highways and other departments. You will also provide drainage and flood risk advice relating to development adoptions, planning applications and for planning appeal hearings. Provide sustainable Drainage System guidance and support to the Council and in particular, support the Council's Development Control function. Deal with Watercourse Change Consent Applications for Land Drainage and Water Environment Regulations compliance. Responsible for the investigation of flooding incidents within the city and to ensure that a database of such incidents is maintained. Identify significant flood risk catchments in Coventry in relation to surface water run-off, groundwater flooding, and ordinary watercourses, and developing and implementing plans and schemes to manage those risks. Work with partners in the development flood alleviation projects and drainage improvement projects e.g. The Environment Agency, Severn Trent Water, other City Council Directorates. Propose innovative solutions, prepare designs and agree modifications to drainage and flood risk mitigation schemes. Prepare works orders for drainage improvement and flood risk mitigation schemes, monitor and review costs and agree final accounts for authorisation and to be responsible for the Highways Drainage budget and major flood alleviation project budgets. Ensure that the Council is kept up to date with all laws, codes and guidance concerning surface water management and drainage and to develop local policies in relation to these. Assist colleagues and to deputize for the Flood Risk Manager by undertaking specific project work, attending meetings and participating in corporate working groups, including responding, both verbally and written, to queries from elected members, the public, contractors and statutory bodies. The position is temporary until the end of the year. You must have relevant experience and your own transport. This position is also working out of Whitley Depot in Coventry. Salary depending on skills and experience up to £40 per hour.
