At CMS2, we specialise in the design and manufacture of atmospheric control systems for the defence industry and are part of a wider group (Science Group). Science Group is a science & technology business providing consultancy and systems to an international client base. The Role As our Systems Engineer you will be supporting development and management of complex process plants throughout their lifecycles, including analysis, verification and validation of product compliance. As an engineer with a core background in either mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineering, you will collaborate with the engineering and project teams to transform stakeholder requirements into validated systems deployed in highly demanding environments. As part of the role, you will be expected to work with a multidisciplinary team consisting of mechanical, electrical and chemical engineers to undertake the following activities: System Design and Integration Collaborative design and integration within the engineering team to develop complex process chemical, mechanical and electrical systems, ensuring functionality and interoperability. Use of engineering calculations and testing where applicable to inform and coordinate design concepts with the engineering team. Analysis of simulations and calculations including tools such as CFD and FEA to assist the development of design iterations. Engagement with project management team to support project governance and align technical expectations. Contribution and lead of safety analysis such as HAZOPS, HAZID, SIL Requirements Analysis Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and analyse system requirements, translating them into technical specifications. Use of a requirements management tool (Perforce ALM) to structure requirements, verification and issue management with full traceability. Investigation and conformance reviews of Defense Standards, Military Standards and Commercial Standards as applicable to the developed systems. System Architecture Produce technical descriptions of system processes and operation to support new business activities and bids Develop and analyse system architecture with the engineering team, considering scalability, performance, and reliability. Collaborate with engineering team and external stakeholders to develop electrical and mechanical interfaces within the system and also integration into the intended operating environment. Testing and Validation Develop and implement testing specifications to verify component, sub-system and whole system performance. Participate and lead technical reviews to support governance of design process. Risk Management Technical risk analysis using tools such as FMCEA and FTA to support risk registers Evaluation and proposed mitigation of potential risks related to system design and implementation. Documentation Create and contribute to comprehensive technical documentation, including system manuals, design documents, and test plans. Coordination and contribution to customer deliverable documents including design verification, test proposals, management plans, technical manuals, environmental reports, compliance matrixes. Continuous Improvement Systematic classification of issues to enable cooperative efforts within the team, encouraging the development of solutions for improving processes and design. About You Essential: Degree, HND or significant proven experience in an Engineering discipline. Expertise in creating, analysing, and working on engineered systems. Experience in complex engineering equipment design and integration. Experience of requirements management software (Perforce ALM, DOORS, Jama Connect) Able to build long-term successful stakeholder partnerships, both internally and externally with customers and suppliers. Full understanding of the system engineering lifecycle and V-model. Demonstrable engineering leadership, negotiation and influencing skills. Decision-making / problem solving skills. Desirable: Experience and Knowledge of IEC 15288 Experience and Knowledge of IEC 61508/61511 Experience of designing to meet military requirements (Def Stan, MIL-STDs, JSPs). Experience of model-based systems engineering and modelling languages (SysML). Experience of requirements management software (Perforce ALM, DOORS, Jama Connect) Member of INCOSE with or working towards professional certification (CESP, ESEP) We will offer a highly competitive salary and benefits package.
