Application Technology and Development Strategy Specialist


DCS Engineering are looking for a commercially minded technical leader to join our client’s global team. This unique role blends strategic planning with hands-on project execution. You will be responsible for shaping the long-term direction of sector-focused innovation, while also providing technical support and leadership to drive real-world business growth.


How will your day look?

Strategic planning & innovation:

  • Define and maintain sector-specific development plans that outline realistic strategic goals and initiatives over a 2–5 year timeline.
  • Build and manage a portfolio of future-facing projects in collaboration with key internal teams, ensuring alignment with innovation priorities and growth targets.
  • Identify new research and development opportunities and prepare compelling business cases to support investment and implementation.
  • Champion the innovation process, helping to evaluate, refine, and prioritise ideas that offer the highest potential return.
  • Act as the sector expert, providing insight and support on strategic matters, marketing direction, and acquisition projects.
  • Design and deliver learning sessions and strategic briefings to raise awareness and understanding of sector trends and application technologies.
  • Build strong external partnerships by actively engaging with industry bodies, government organisations, research centres, and events.



Technical application support:

  • Work closely with sales teams to support the delivery of annual growth targets through technical input and collaborative project involvement.
  • Plan and oversee customer trials across various technical centres in the UK and Europe, helping to validate and showcase new technologies.
  • Manage the operations and ongoing development of a key demonstration site, ensuring it reflects cutting-edge practices and technologies.
  • Provide expert-level advice to internal teams on complex process, equipment, and material queries.
  • Use in-house modelling and simulation tools to support project development and quantify customer value.
  • Represent the organisation on industry committees and contribute to discussions on upcoming regulatory or market changes relevant to gas-based applications.



What will you bring?

  • You will have 7 or more years' experience with a strong track record in strategic development, technical consultancy, or application engineering
  • Hold a degree level qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Deep understanding of industrial processes or technologies, ideally within sectors such as food production, manufacturing, or energy
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and influencing senior stakeholders
  • Confident communicator with the ability to simplify complex topics for diverse audiences
  • Proven ability to balance long-term thinking with day-to-day delivery
  • Comfortable working across both technical and commercial environments
