Import Operator – Perishables (Night Shift)

Location: Heathrow/Hayes

Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off – Night Shifts

Salary: Up to £45,000, including night shift allowance + Excellent Benefits

Type: Full-time, Permanent

A leading freight forwarder specialising in perishable cargo is looking to recruit an experienced Import Operator to join their busy team on a 4 on / 4 off night shift pattern. Based near Heathrow, this is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, time-critical environment, managing air freight imports for some of the world’s leading perishable goods suppliers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Handle import customs clearance processes for time-sensitive perishable shipments
• Coordinate closely with airlines, handling agents, and internal teams to ensure smooth cargo release
• Liaise with customers and suppliers to provide real-time updates and resolve any issues
• Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations and DEFRA guidelines for perishable goods
• Manage documentation including airway bills, invoices, and customs entries
• Monitor shipment arrivals and work within tight timeframes to meet client expectations

Requirements:

• Previous experience in air import operations, ideally with a focus on perishables or time-sensitive cargo
• Strong understanding of customs procedures and import documentation
• Familiarity with systems such as CHIEF, CDS, and cargo handling portals
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond quickly to operational issues
• Excellent attention to detail and communication skills
• Flexibility to work night shifts on a rotating 4 on / 4 off basis
