Role purpose / summary

We’re looking for a hands-on Accounting & Financial Domain Expert to support the client’s product team in improving and expanding their suite of B2B financial software tools. You'll work closely with a Technical Product Manager to help define and validate real-world use cases around cashflow forecasting, balance sheet and P&L analysis, and intelligent reporting powered by AI.

This is a highly collaborative role focused on translating everyday finance team challenges into product opportunities. You won’t be building the product — we have engineers and product managers for that — but your expertise will ensure we build the right things.

Key Skills/ requirements

  • Act as the subject matter expert (SME) in UK accounting, bookkeeping, and financial reporting practices

Partner with a Technical PM to:

  • Identify pain points and inefficiencies in existing accounting/reporting processes
  • Define and prioritise product use cases with high practical value
  • Validate early concepts, mockups, and features for accuracy and relevance

Provide input on:

  • Common workflows for mainly small but also mid-sized businesses (e.g. Cashflow, month-end close)
  • Data needed for forecasting, reporting, or anomaly detection
  • Edge cases, limitations, and realistic expectations around automation
  • Contribute to user research planning, interviews, and testing when needed
  • Help translate technical product ideas into accounting-relevant scenarios

What We're Looking For:

  • Hands-on experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or financial control (UK context preferred)
  • Familiarity with accounting software

Solid understanding of:

  • Cashflow planning
  • P&L and balance sheet structure and usage
  • Common reporting requirements for SMEs or finance teams
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and adapting to evolving product goals
  • Strong communicator: can explain financial concepts to non-experts
  • Open to collaborating with product managers, engineers, and designers

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to AI tools in finance (e.g. Anomaly detection, categorisation, forecasting models)
  • Experience working in or with software companies or digital tools
  • Understanding of APIs, data integrations, or how financial systems connect

All profiles will be reviewed against the required skills and experience. Due to the high number of applications we will only be able to respond to successful applicants in the first instance. We thank you for your interest and the time taken to apply!
