Service Care Legal are seeking an experienced and motivated Planning Lawyer Locum to join a well-regarded local authority legal team in North London. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified legal professional with solid experience in planning and local government law to work in a flexible and supportive environment. The role will require attendance at the office one day per week, with the remainder of the work conducted remotely.

Key Responsibilities


  • Provide legal advice and support on a wide range of planning, highways, and local government matters (contentious and non-contentious).
  • Draft and negotiate Section 106 agreements, unilateral undertakings, highways agreements, and other related documentation.
  • Attend Planning Committee meetings, offering legal guidance and representation as required.
  • Advise on the legal implications of decisions, including reviewing and drafting reports.
  • Manage contentious planning matters, such as planning appeals and judicial reviews.
  • Attend project meetings for major developments, liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Instruct and brief Counsel and manage external legal providers where appropriate.
  • Keep abreast of legal developments and provide training or updates to relevant stakeholders when required.
  • Ensure effective use of case management systems and adherence to practice management standards.

    Qualifications


    • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives (England & Wales).
    • Minimum of 3 years' post-qualification experience (PQE) in relevant areas of law.

    Essential Experience


    • Strong working knowledge of planning law, highways law, road traffic regulations, and local government law.
    • Proven experience in:
    • Drafting and negotiating planning and highways agreements.
    • Advising on planning and related legal issues.
    • Handling contentious matters, including appeals and judicial reviews.
