Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Responsible Individual to oversee and support the effective management of a children’s residential home based in Kegworth, Derby. This is a part-time role, ideal for a professional who is passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people, and who meets the regulatory requirements to hold the Responsible Individual status under Ofsted regulations.


Location: Kegworth, Derby

Hours: Part-Time (flexible hours, to be agreed)

Salary: Competitive (based on experience)


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic oversight and ensure the home operates in line with Ofsted regulations, including The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the Quality Standards.
  • Work closely with the Registered Manager to ensure high standards of care, safeguarding, and staff performance.
  • Support the home in delivering safe, nurturing, and structured care for children with emotional, behavioural, or developmental needs.
  • Maintain regular contact with the home through visits, audits, reports, and virtual oversight to ensure compliance, quality assurance, and continuous improvement.
  • Represent the provider in any regulatory inspections or external reviews, and support the home in preparing for and responding to these.
  • Provide effective governance and professional challenge to ensure the home is well-led and that the voice of the child is central to practice.


Requirements

  • Must meet the criteria for a Responsible Individual as set out by Ofsted.
  • Substantial experience in children’s residential care, ideally in a leadership or governance capacity.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and best practices in children’s social care.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining strong communication with the provider and Registered Manager.
  • Strong organisational, analytical, and reporting skills.
  • A relevant qualification in social care, leadership, or a related field is preferred.
