Head of Risk & Compliance

Manchester

c.£80k-£100k + Bonus


Due to recent growth and business complexity, the Head of Risk & Compliance is a new role within the organisation and a fantastic opportunity for a current Head of Risk/Senior Risk Manager to shape and positively impact the risk direction of a fast-moving, entrepreneurial business.

This high-profile role will initially focus around the development, maturing and embedding risk frameworks across the organisation, redesigning risk & compliance processes and ensuring key risks are effectively managed with the opportunity for further expansion as the business matures.


Responsibilities:

  • Engage with senior stakeholders to identify and manage key risks while fostering strong governance, risk management, and control frameworks. Develop a balanced risk framework that aligns with the Group’s strategic goals and risk tolerance.
  • Deliver actionable recommendations on risk strategy, efficient risk management, regulatory compliance, and sales quality.
  • Prepare and present reports for the Risk and Compliance Committee and Group Company boards, ensuring clear and insightful communication.
  • Drive risk and compliance alignment across the Group, staying informed on global developments and sharing insights across jurisdictions.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing compliance and internal audit team, enhancing their skills and influence while strengthening stakeholder relationships.
  • Design and implement internal audit and compliance methodologies, ensuring corrective actions are identified and tracked.
  • Produce concise and timely audit reports, collaborating with team members to ensure accuracy and relevance.
  • Initiate new audits and reviews by consulting management, defining scope and objectives, and securing approval before execution.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with management, agreeing on audit terms, finalizing reports (including action plans), and providing ongoing support and guidance.


Experience:

  • Extensive risk management expertise, ideally including early-stage involvement in shaping an organisation’s risk framework.
  • Proven track record in evolving risk environments, with experience guiding teams through risk framework transformations.
  • Analytical and improvement-driven, able to assess complex processes, identify control enhancements, and lead implementation where needed.
  • Strong stakeholder management, with the ability to engage, influence, and constructively challenge
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to balance business objectives with robust risk mitigation strategies
  • Positive attitude to change and impacting a busy, fast-paced environment
  • Exposure to Legal, Insurance or non-Banking sectors would be preferable but not a pre-requisite
