Job description

My client is seeking a dedicated Health and Safety Officer to join their team. This role is crucial for maintaining a safe working environment, particularly within a manufacturing setting that involves handling flammables and COSHH items. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of health, safety, and environmental (HS&E) programs.


Day-to-day of the role:


Risk Assessment and Incident Management:

  • Conduct regular risk assessments and inspections to identify potential hazards.
  • Document health and safety incidents and near misses to facilitate root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Assist in the creation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) from an HS&E perspective to ensure safe and efficient work processes.


HSE Training and Awareness:

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for employees, contractors, and new hires.
  • Ensure all team members are informed of best safety practices, emergency procedures, and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Promote a culture of safety and ensure clear, concise communication of relevant information to all team members.


Emergency Preparedness and Response:

  • Develop, implement, and test emergency response plans and protocols.
  • Coordinate with emergency services and local authorities as necessary.
  • Conduct emergency drills to ensure staff and management preparedness.


Continuous Improvement:

  • Monitor and analyse HS&E performance metrics and provide regular reports to management.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to HS&E programs and processes.


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certification in HS&E practices, such as NEBOSH, OSHA, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in HS&E roles, ideally within a manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of HS&E regulations.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strong ability to identify risks and propose preventive solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively training and communicating safety practices.
  • Keen attention to detail for conducting thorough inspections and audits.
  • Proficient in emergency management; skilled in developing and implementing emergency response strategies.
  • Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
