Financial Controller Sheffield


My client is a leading award-winning professional services business based in Sheffield .They are market leaders in their industry, with an open culture where everyone is collaborative and “people first” attitude . Due to growth, they are looking to recruit a proactive and commercially minded Financial Controller: this is a hands-on leadership role where you will be steering financial strategy, improving systems and ensuring the business works compliantly and efficiently. This role can bve done part time over three days . Leading a team of five you will be responsible for:-

  • Leading the finance team and overseeing the day-to-day operations
  • Providing strategic guidance and support to the team on all finance related matters
  • Oversee month- end and year end close processes, working with external accountants and keeping up to date with accounting changes.
  • Manage and prepare VAT returns, PAYE Settlement figures and other statutory obligations
  • Ensure SRA compliance including managing audits and keeping the SRA handbook up to date
  • Review and manage deposit accounts to optimise interest while maintaining cashflow
  • Explore ways in which currencies are managed including if accounts cards are needed
  • Oversee the debt management process
  • Respond to complex financial queries around tax withholding , sanction, and regulatory issues
  • Support the budgeting and forecasting processes and ensure reports are delivered clearly and on time
  • Look for ways to make the team more efficient an ensure high performance across the board .
  • Be the “go to” person for anything finance related , hands on, proactive and solutions focussed .


The Person

  • Ideally you will hold a professional accounting qualification (ACA/ACA/CIMA)
  • You will have a solid track record of experience in a senior finance role with team leadership responsbilities
  • You will be confident working with external accountants , auditors and senior stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
  • Tech savvy with experience of using finance systems and a mindset for process improvement
  • Highly organised with attention to detail
  • Knowledge of professional services would be ideal but not essential as well as an understanding of COFA responsibilities
