Energy Officer


Start: ASAP

Rate: Negotiable (Umbrella, Inside IR35)

Location: England - Flexible hybrid working, predominantly remote

Duration: 6 Months - Potential to be extended


Our client is seeking the support of Energy Officers to support the Energy Manager in delivering an efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable energy strategy. This role involves benchmarking existing practices, validating utility bills, supporting contract management, and contributing to decarbonisation planning in line with net zero objectives.


You will play a key part in helping consolidate contracts, manage energy-related financial operations, and support the delivery of improved energy efficiency across a large property portfolio.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Assist the energy manager and wider team in consolidating energy contracts and improving energy data accuracy, including meter readings, reporting, and bill validation
  • Conduct financial and data analysis related to debt management, recharging, and off-contract usage
  • Support the recovery of funds through effective validation and identification of billing errors
  • Collaborate in the procurement of cheaper, greener utilities (electricity, gas, water) while contributing to the organisation’s net zero carbon transition
  • Assist in asset condition assessments and development of asset decarbonisation plans
  • Ensure compliance with energy-related legislation and certifications (e.g., EPCs, DECs)
  • Help draft business cases, reports, and funding applications for sustainability projects
  • Contribute to the long-term strategic energy roadmap, including resource planning and utilities procurement


Key Requirements:


  • Proven experience in energy/carbon management, particularly within a large, complex organisation
  • Direct experience in - Debt management, Recharging processes, Off-contract usage identification
  • High Excel proficiency, with the ability to manage and analyse large datasets
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Experience in energy procurement and contract management
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Able to work independently and as part of a remote team
