Job description

Venn Group is delighted to be supporting a public sector organisation in the recruitment of an Interim Health & Safety Consultant for an initial 3-month project. This key role will lead a strategic review of existing Health & Safety policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with current legislation and organisational standards.


Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Lead a comprehensive review and update of the organisation’s Health & Safety policies and procedures
  • Ensure all policies reflect current legislation, best practice, and internal compliance standards
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to senior leaders and stakeholders across various departments
  • Engage with staff at all levels to assess operational risks and embed practical H&S improvements
  • Deliver clear, strategic recommendations to support long-term cultural and procedural change
  • Travel to various office sites across the UK to meet with teams and assess local compliance practices
  • Report on findings, progress, and key risks throughout the project lifecycle


Ideal candidate profile:

  • Holds an advanced Health & Safety qualification – NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) is essential
  • Proven experience delivering complex H&S reviews, policy updates, and compliance audits
  • Strong understanding of relevant UK legislation and industry standards
  • Confident working with diverse internal stakeholders and delivering improvement across multiple sites
  • Highly self-motivated and comfortable managing a standalone project
  • Willing and able to travel to regional offices as required (minimum once per site during contract)
  • Experience within public sector, infrastructure, transport, or regulatory environments is advantageous

Salary/Rate: Band 8B

Working hours: Full time

Working pattern: Hybrid (minimum 40% office-based, flexible on location)
