Payroll Advisor (12-Month Contract)


Location: 199 Wharfside Street, Birmingham, B1 1RN


Duration: 12 months (Contract)


Pay Rate: £18–£23 per hour


Start Date: ASAP

As a Payroll Advisor, you’ll support the delivery of an accurate and compliant payroll service within a fast-paced, people-focused HR Shared Services team.

Key Responsibilities


  • Serve as an escalation point for complex or non-routine payroll queries
  • Collaborate with external payroll providers and internal teams to ensure service excellence
  • Maintain up-to-date payroll documentation and support knowledge sharing/training
  • Administer faster payments accurately and within deadlines
  • Review and analyse payroll reports, identifying and resolving any discrepancies
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC, tax, pension, holiday pay, and minimum wage legislation
  • Conduct governance checks to uphold payroll accuracy and mitigate risks
  • Provide general support to the Payroll Team Lead, deputising when required


What We’re Looking For


  • In-depth understanding of UK payroll legislation and statutory compliance
  • Proven experience in payroll operations, including handling complex transactions
  • Familiarity with payroll systems/software and strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
  • Professionalism, discretion, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality
  • Awareness of current and evolving payroll regulations and best practice
