Head of Energy & Specialty Claims


A leading London Market insurer is looking for an experienced and strategic Head of Energy & Specialty Claims to oversee a broad and challenging portfolio across multiple specialty lines. This is a pivotal leadership role that will guide a high-performing team and shape best-in-class claims practices within a dynamic and growing business.


About the Role


You’ll take the lead on managing a varied portfolio of high-value, complex claims across areas including energy, casualty, marine, aviation, political risk, product recall, and terrorism. This position requires both technical expertise and strong people leadership to ensure effective claims outcomes, compliance with regulatory requirements, and continual process improvement. You’ll work closely with underwriting and executive teams to influence strategy, ensure alignment with business goals, and build strong relationships both internally and in the wider market.

Key Responsibilities


  • Lead and mentor a high-performing claims team, ensuring technical excellence and professional growth.
  • Provide strategic direction on complex and high-exposure claims, ensuring timely and accurate resolution.
  • Oversee financial performance of the claims portfolio, including reserving and cost management.
  • Maintain strong governance through regular audits, quality assurance, and adherence to internal protocols.
  • Identify operational improvements and support the development of training and tools to strengthen team capability.
  • Represent the claims function in stakeholder discussions, presenting on emerging trends and major developments.
  • Promote a collaborative and inclusive team culture that supports curiosity, accountability, and innovation.
  • Act as a role model for positive conduct, ensuring decisions reflect the best outcomes for policyholders.


About You


  • Significant experience in technical claims handling within relevant lines of business.
  • Strong working knowledge of the legal, regulatory, and commercial frameworks that underpin the London Market.
  • Proven leadership skills with a track record of team development and performance management.
  • Highly analytical with the ability to assess complex scenarios and drive sound decision-making.
  • A confident communicator who can influence, negotiate, and present with impact.
  • Committed to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Relevant academic or professional qualifications are preferred.
