Assistant Editor - ZERO Post in Greater London

The Midnight Club is looking for an Assistant Editor - ZERO Post in Greater London

Job description

ASSISTANT EDITOR / INGEST OPERATOR, ZERO Post

About ZERO Post

Founded in 2023 and incubated by The Midnight Club, ZERO was created with a bold vision and end-to-end philosophy, to redesign the way our ideas are built and delivered. Beyond being a production company, we lead industry innovation by setting new benchmarks in how we make through diversity, circularity, and outstanding on-set experiences.

At ZERO Post, our work is influenced by cultural trends and movements, which impact how we approach and execute production. We prioritise cultivating talent and champion being different. We seek culturally attuned production methods and are always looking for betterment. If you’re excited about influencing the future of the industry and joining a team that thrives on pushing boundaries, ZERO is the place for you.

ZERO is fully integrated within The Midnight Club, serving as their trusted production partner. This close integration gives us a unique opportunity to collaborate directly with the creatives developing the concepts we bring to life. By working hand in hand, we break down the traditional boundaries that often exist between agencies and production companies, fostering a more fluid and collaborative production process. In TMC’s words, “ZERO is how we make.”

The Job

We’re looking for a technically skilled Assistant Editor / Ingest Operator (technical operations focus) to support post-production operations across our projects for major brands. This is a data-centric, operational position with a focus on managing media workflows, handling large volumes of rushes, maintaining backups, supporting on-set DIT, and ensuring seamless ingest and media management through networked and MAM systems.

You’ll play a critical part in our post-production pipeline, ensuring all footage and project assets are well-organised, accessible, correctly labelled, and archived across local and networked environments.

What you'll be doing

Ingest Operations

  • Manage and organise rushes across multiple formats and codecs.
  • Apply correct naming conventions and metadata standards to all media.
  • Sync audio and multi-cam footage efficiently.

Data & Media Management:

  • Handle DIT duties on set and office on-site, including data wrangling, checksum verification, and backups.
  • Oversee hard drive logistics, transfer protocols, and secure file handling.
  • Manage shoot and post assets from contributors, production partners, and graphics houses.
  • Maintain consistent backups (primary and secondary) in both local and NAS/networked environments.
  • Work closely with editors and producers to prepare media for post and delivery.

Technical Post Support:

  • QC incoming footage and deliverables for technical issues (frame rate, resolution, sync, etc.).
  • Generate EDLs/XMLs for colour grade and sound post workflows.
  • Support archive footage sourcing and ingest.
  • Implement and improve Media Asset Management (MAM) processes and media tracking.

Systems & Software:

  • Maintain working knowledge of DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, Media Encoder, and relevant plugins.
  • Keep up-to-date with technical developments in storage solutions, MAM platforms, file formats, and ingest tools.
  • Provide recommendations to the team regarding software and hardware upgrades.

What We’re Looking For

  • 1-2 years of experience in a similar role
  • Proficient in Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and Media Encoder.
  • Familiar with After Effects (basic use desirable but not essential).
  • Proven experience with file-based workflows, codecs, and media management best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of file transfer protocols, networked storage (NAS/SAN), and backup strategies.
  • Hands-on experience with DIT workflows and on-set data wrangling.
  • Experience preparing edits for grade and audio post via EDL/XML.
  • Awareness of MAM systems and structured media libraries.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive mindset; able to troubleshoot and solve problems independently.
  • Technically driven with a passion for post-production workflows.
  • Highly organised and detail-oriented.
  • Comfortable operating in a hybrid role (office, home, on-set).
  • Clear communicator and effective collaborator across teams.
  • Able to take direction and adapt to changing project needs.
  • Enthusiastic and calm under pressure with excellent timekeeping.

The Package

  • 23/25 days holiday per year plus Bank holidays
  • Hybrid working - office 3x per week, WFH 2x per week and on-set as required
  • Xmas office closure in addition to your Holiday entitlement
  • Company healthcare (cash back plan) for yourself with Health Shield
  • Assistance programme with 24/7 confidential access as part of your Health Shield plan
  • Mentoring programme parallel to your Line Management scheme
  • Work Pension scheme (PSE)
  • Opportunities to grow within a technically progressive and forward-thinking team.
