Job description

Green building. Purpose-led projects. Real progression

Hands-on commercial role with project ownership

We’re supporting a purpose-driven business delivering high-quality, energy-efficient retrofits across the UK. With sustainability at its core and backed by strong growth, they’ve created a new opportunity for a Commercial Project Lead to join their Bristol office.

It’s a great chance to join a tight-knit, values-led team that believes in ownership, efficiency, and doing the job right.

What will you do?

This is a hands-on commercial delivery role, responsible for owning project profitability from day one. You’ll lead all things margin-related across multiple retrofit projects, working closely with the Head of Commercial and Project Buyers.

  • Build project budgets and manage cash flow from start to finish
  • Track gross margin, valuations, variations, and spend
  • Submit accurate monthly reports and forecasts to clients and directors
  • Ensure project payments and variations are actioned properly
  • Liaise with suppliers to reduce costs and avoid margin slippage
  • Find ways to improve project performance and drive profitability

You'll have autonomy and backing - the team wants someone with ideas who can take ownership, be proactive, and make projects run better.

What skills will you need?

  • 2–3 years minimum experience in a commercial role, ideally with some experience managing a small team or leading from the front
  • Sector experience (retrofit, housing, construction) is nice to have - but not essential. Our client has hired successfully from outside the industry where candidates bring strong transferable commercial skills and leadership qualities
  • Solid understanding of margins, valuations, forecasting, and project cash flow
  • Clear communicator, confident engaging with clients, suppliers, and internal teams
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail
  • Commercially minded and proactive — someone who spots problems early and solves them

What do you get in return?

  • £45,000 – £55,000 salary depending on experience plus monthly bonus
  • Flexible benefits incl. Tech scheme, medical cash plan, cycle to work
  • Option to buy more holiday
  • Supportive team culture - no egos, just ownership
  • Work with meaning - make homes greener and more energy-efficient

Please note – this role is fully on-site in Bristol during probation.
