The role

We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Town Planner with approximately two years of post-qualification experience to join our growing planning team. You will work on a diverse range of projects across residential, commercial, and mixed-use schemes—supporting applications, appeals, policy reviews and site appraisals for both largely private sector clients. You are a qualified and motivated planning professional with a strong understanding of the English planning system and a desire to grow your career in consultancy. You are confident communicating with clients and stakeholders and have a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with a range in both scale and complexity of planning applications, from pre-application discussions through to conditions, and manage smaller applications independently.
  • Undertake site visits and prepare accompanying reports.
  • Prepare detailed planning appraisals and planning statements.
  • Monitor and interpret planning policy changes and produce relevant reports or representations to support client objectives.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, and local authorities to progress projects efficiently.
  • Support appeals, including preparing evidence, appeal statements and coordinating input and appeal process.
  • Keep abreast of changes in planning legislation, policy, and best practice, including preparing internal and external updates and communications.
  • Assist with business development through client engagement and proposal support.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to deliver integrated project outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records and adhere to departmental/company procedures

Essential Skills and Experience

  • 2+ years’ post-qualification experience in consultancy, local authority, or developer roles.
  • Strong grasp of English planning system, including legislation and NPPF.
  • Clear and effective communication of planning issues.
  • Strong research abilities with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in interpreting planning documents.
  • Excellent interpersonal and client service skills.
  • Organised, proactive, and able to manage deadlines effectively.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience working on major planning applications, regeneration projects or planning appeals.
  • Understanding of viability, design or sustainability issues as part of the planning process.
  • Working knowledge of GIS or other mapping/analytical tools.
  • Experience engaging with planning committees, local plan examination, appeal hearings or public consultations.
  • Business development experience or an interest in building your client base.
